Perez Hilton’s family gives update on celeb blogger’s health a month after harrowing suicide attempt

Perez Hilton’s family shared that the gossip blogger has entered a residential treatment program one month after his suicide attempt.

“After weeks in the hospital receiving treatment for his physical injuries, Perez entered a residential treatment program where he can focus fully on his mental health and recovery,” they wrote in a statement shared to Hilton’s website Monday.

“This was an important next step, but there’s still a long road ahead. Perez is expected to remain in residential treatment for several more weeks, potentially longer, depending on what his treatment team believes is best for his recovery.”

His family also revealed that Hilton — born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr. — currently does not have access to phone or laptop while in treatment and that contact with family “remains limited” as he focuses on getting better.

Hilton’s family also made sure to shut down several “false reports” made about his health since his hospitalization.

They specifically called out the previous claim that the 48-year-old believed he was living in 2016 and was dealing with serious memory loss.

“To be clear, Perez has not lost ten years of his memory, does not believe it’s 2016, and is not confused about where he is. He is lucid and communicates clearly with his family,” they clarified.

“He does not have stitches and is not covered in gauze. And no, he has not asked anyone to bring Katy Perry to see him or mentioned her. No family member, and no one authorized to speak on Perez’s behalf, provided these false claims.”

His family also gave an update on Hilton’s three children, who fled their dad’s home minutes before he began self harming on a livestream.

“His three children remain together, safe, and doing well in the care of their grandmother, who has stepped in to care for them full-time during this unexpected chapter.”

Their priority for now is to give Mario, Mia and and Mayte “as much stability, routine, and normalcy as possible” while their dad is in recovery.

“We are incredibly grateful for everything their grandmother is doing for them,” they added of Teresita Lavandeira, who filed for temporary custody of the children on Aug. 7 after her son’s suicide attempt.

The family also touched on the “deeply disturbing comments” from those who “wish Perez had succeeded in taking his own life.”

They noted that no matter what people may think of the media personality, he had made amends and “privately” apologized to several stars before his mental health crisis.

“No one has to forget his past or accept his apologies. But we hope we can all agree that celebrating someone’s suicide attempt crosses a line. Three children came frighteningly close to losing their father forever. There is nothing funny or entertaining about that.”

The family concluded, “For now, Perez’s job is to focus on getting healthy. Our job as his family is to support him, care for his children, and give them the stability they need while he does that.”

As Page Six previously reported, Hilton was hospitalized last month following what was called a “suicide attempt” in dispatch audio from a 911 call.

Authorities arrived at Hilton’s Miami home, and several hours later, confirmed he was “safely recovered and transported … to a local hospital.”

He had been facing mounting pressures after multiple of hospitalizations earlier this year, subsequent medical bills, and a move from Las Vegas to Miami.

Hilton’s loved ones have continued giving updates and previously told fans that he is “able to communicate” and has been granted supervised visitation with his kids.
