Pokemon TCG Pocket Wonder Pick event has meta card every player needs

The latest Wonder Pick event is adding two new Promo cards to Pokemon TCG Pocket, and one of those is essential to build Palkia ex’s deck, which is dominating the current meta.

As with every card game, the meta changes every time a new expansion is added. This is exactly what happened to Pokemon TCG Pocket when the Space-Time Smackdown set featuring Legendaries Dialga and Palkia was released.

While many thought Dialga ex’s card would dominate the game, it was Palkia ex that became the top card. But for the Legendary to shine, a strategy focused on generating energy quickly is needed, and that can only be done with the help of a few selected cards, such as Manaphy – which, surprisingly, is part of this month’s Wonder Pick event.

Manaphy is the supporter everyone needs

Palkia ex took over the meta when it was released, and although everyone thought that its power would end with the release of the latest set – Triumphant Light – the opposite happened. The Water-type Legendary gained even more strength and became the ultimate meta killer.

The thing with Palkia ex is that both attacks are useful and accessible if your deck is properly built. However, for that, you’ll require support cards that can charge the Legendary with a lot of Water Energy to KO any opponent.

While Misty is a very overpowered choice, flipping coins in exchange for Energy is too risky, as you could get tails on the first flip and end up wasting a turn. So, the right way to exploit this deck is by using Pokemon that can generate energy, such as Vaporeon or the exceptional Manaphy.

Vaporeon – which came out with the Mythical Island set – is a good card. Its ‘Wash Out’ ability allows players to move one Energy from their Benched Pokemon to their Active one. But currently, there is no more useful card than Manaphy, and thanks to the March 2025 Wonder Pick event featuring its Promo version, all players can easily get it.

Manaphy’s ‘Oceanic Gift’ attack allows you to attach Energy to two of your Benched Pokemon, making building up Palkia ex extremely fast. Plus, as it charges different cards, in just a few turns, you can have not one but two fully charged Palkia ex ready for battle.

Ideally, you should start the game with Manaphy as your Active Pokemon, as it only requires one Energy to start using Oceanic Gift. Now, to prevent your opponent from killing it quickly, you can add a Giant Cape for 20 extra HP.

Use Manaphy’s attack to charge up Palkia ex and Vaporeon as much as you can. If KO’d, put Vaporeon on your Active spot and use its Ability to move all the Energy gathered to Palkia ex.

Once Palkia ex is charged, you’ll be unstoapple, as the move Dimensional Storm deals 150 damage to your opponent’s Active Pokemon, but also 20 extra damage for each of their Benched creatures.
