Resident Evil 2 mod adds Bryan from the movie as PS1-style skin

Resident Evil fans can now bring the main character of the new movie into Resident Evil 2 Remake, thanks to a new mod that turns Leon into Bryan.

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil arrived in theaters on September 18, offering a new take on Capcom’s survival horror series rather than directly adapting one of the games. The movie tells an original story centered on Bryan, a medical courier played by Austin Abrams, who finds himself in Raccoon City during the outbreak.

Bryan was created specifically for the movie, rather than being an established Resident Evil character like Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield. But one modder has taken it upon themselves to add him to the games.

Austin Abrams’ Bryan is now in RE2 thanks to new mod

Simply titled Bryan (Resident Evil 2026), the mod was uploaded to Nexus Mods by D0ct0rSauce on September 26, shortly after the film hit theaters.

It replaces Leon’s unlockable 1998 costume with a PS1-style model of Bryan, which was originally added as free DLC, making him look like he’s been plucked straight out of a classic Resident Evil game. But despite the low-poly appearance, you can still make out his distinct beanie hat and jacket that he wears at the start of the film.

With Bryan taking the place of Leon, you can send him on the opposite journey he went on in the movie. Rather than trying to get into Raccoon City while it becomes overrun, he’ll be doing the smarter thing and trying to escape.

For anyone wanting to try it for themselves, installation is handled through Fluffy Mod Manager, with no other requirements listed. It should also work alongside other RE2 Remake mods, provided they don’t replace Leon’s ’98 costume themselves.

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie is still available to watch in theatres, with the director revealing that the original ending was changed to “plan B.” Meanwhile, the film’s producer is working on a revival of Silent Hill.
