Rockstar Games’ Rob Nelson has explained one of GTA 6’s biggest changes as it pertains to walking around with weapons, as it’ll be pretty different from Grand Theft Auto 5.

For months, Rockstar Games had been silent on all things Grand Theft Auto 6. That all changed when the leaks from Cyberleek started ahead of the Extended Look at GTA 6 on Netflix. In the aftermath of both, Rockstar has been a little more open with details about the long-awaited release.

Select content creators have been invited to Rockstar North in Edinburgh to speak to developers, and they’ve also gotten an even bigger look at the game too – spilling details about Jason and Lucia’s relationship, as well as addressing the fact that you will now have to gas up your cars.

Well, Rockstar’s Rob Nelson has also spoken about one of the biggest changes compared to GTA 5, and it centres on walking around with your gun out.

GTA 6 NPCs will react as soon as you’re holding a weapon

Speaking to TGG, Nelson explained that you’ll now see NPCs react if you simply have a gun in your hands, which is different from GTA 5, where you needed to aim at them to get a reaction.

“We don’t feel that works any longer at this resolution with the behavioral sophistication we need from our population now,” the co-studio head said. “In GTA 5, you can pull out a shotgun from nowhere in front of people, and they don’t react. That doesn’t work here.”

As per TGG, Nelson said NPCs are more “nuanced” now too. “NPCs are more nuanced than before, so if you just have a long gun on your back, you should be fine. If you’ve got one in your hand, people don’t like it and they react and start moving away from you,” he added.

There are also changes to how you’ll be able to carry and store weapons. You will be able to have two concealed pistols at all times. However, if you want to start carrying serious firepower, you will have to consider storage options – just like Red Dead Redemption 2.

GTA 6 is still slated to release on November 19, with marketing set to ramp up even further soon enough.
