Russia’s national postal service has resumed regular mail deliveries to North Korea following a six-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, news agencies reported Tuesday.
Russian Post restarted package deliveries to North Korea in June 2025 and has now expanded the service to letters, postcards, printed material and specialized materials for the visually impaired.
Mail weighing up to 20 kilograms (44 pounds) will reach recipients in North Korea within 15 days, according to Interfax.
The deliveries will first be flown to Far Eastern Russia’s Vladivostok, then transported to Pyongyang by a partner North Korean airline.
Last year, Russian Post said Russians frequently send clothing, footwear, documents, books and non-perishable food items like tea, coffee, grains, dried fruits, nuts and canned goods to North Korea.
Russian Post CEO Mikhail Volkov has described North Korea as an “important strategic partner.”
The full restoration of mail services with North Korea comes after Russian Post resumed mail and package deliveries to the United States this summer following a suspension after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
