‘Scumbag Liars’: Dave Portnoy Unloads on Democrats After Joe Biden Pardons Hunter Biden

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy made no shortage of headlines this election cycle with his hot takes about why Kamala Harris was “the worst candidate ever” and how the Democrat Party “lost the plot.” And now he is back with another rant in the wake of Joe Biden pardoning his son Hunter Biden after previously pledging not to.

On Tuesday’s show, Megyn was joined by the hosts of The Fifth Column – Kmele Foster, Michael Moynihan, and Matt Welch – to discuss Portnoy’s takedown and what it says about where the Democratic Party stands.

Portnoy Pounces

Portnoy took to social media on Monday to offer what he called “one last political rant” in the wake of the pardon news. Throughout the three-and-a-half-minute clip, he explained why he “never want[s] to hear Democrats lecture Americans about having the moral high ground ever again.”

After chastising Biden and White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for their ongoing claim that a pardon was off the table, Portnoy admitted that he probably “would probably do the same thing” if given the chance to help out a loved one. The difference? He said he wouldn’t have lied about it. 

He said the “point of this rant” was to make clear how the Democrats continue to shoot themselves in the foot by thinking “they are morally superior to everyone else.” Those on the left who fall into that camp, he said, “don’t get it” because their “brain is broken.”

“What the Democrats have done for, I don’t know, 12 years [is they] have taken this moral high ground that we’re the righteous party, the truth, honesty, integrity, and Trump is a threat to democracy, he’s Hitler, and he’s a Nazi,” Portnoy explained. “It’s the Democrats, this engine just lying straight to our face, pretending they’re the moral, righteous authority, and thinking the American people are so stupid that we don’t see through it.”

In his view, it is the party elite, not the average voter, who is to blame. “The people, the talking heads who sit there and call Republicans trash and we’re stupid, no strong women around Trump – this is why you got obliterated in the election,” he continued. “You’re no morally better than anybody else… So, stop pretending that you’re this moral, righteous authority and you’re so true and virtuous. You guys are f-cking scumbag liars.”

His solution: “Blow up the Democratic Party!”

Hunter Biden’s Privilege

As Megyn shared after one of Portnoy’s earlier rants, he theoretically represented a ‘gettable’ guy for the Harris-Walz campaign. “Dave Portnoy is a man who Harris would like to get because he is definitely pro-choice. He went on a tear like a year ago about how he can’t vote for the Republican Party because they’re pro-life… It was post-Dobbs,” she recalled. 

He became a Trump supporter because of how out-of-touch the Democratic Party has become. “The accent of Dave Portnoy convinces me of everything he says,” Moynihan joked. But it is more than that. 

“We all know somebody… who has gone through very similar things with drug addiction, in trouble with the law, etc. [to Hunter Biden]… and I have an enormous amount of sympathy for that,” he explained. “But this pardon doesn’t resonate, and the reason it doesn’t resonate is because we don’t get out of trouble. We don’t get board seats on Ukrainian energy firms with no background. We don’t get art shows despite the fact that our art is absolute garbage. He has had a path out of this for so long.”

While President Biden likes to paint himself as a working class Joe from Scranton, Pennsylvania, who would take Amtrak from Delaware to Washington, D.C., Moynihan said there is no way around the fact that Hunter “grew up in extraordinary privilege.”

That is why, he added, someone like Portnoy can connect with disaffected Democrats while Biden and the party elite cannot. “Dave Portnoy got rich later. He is like a working class guy with a working class accent, and we have sympathy for him. We understand somebody who has made it,” he said. “And we look at someone like Hunter Biden and Joe Biden scratching his chin, saying, ‘What shall we do with Hunter?’ when he is sitting in his borrowed mansion.”

The Pardon Problem

Welch said there was a way Biden could have thwarted some of the blowback to the pardon. “There are people who are in jail right now serving four-year sentences because they lied on their application to get a gun about being legal – in their state – cannabis users. That is it. They weren’t a crackhead…. They didn’t get a cushy job at Burisma when their dad… was in charge of the Ukraine portfolio in the Obama administration,” he explained. “Wouldn’t you think that you might go out and find a few of those to pardon as well?”

But the 82 year old has done no such thing. “He is not taking that opportunity, and this is one of the infuriating things about all politicized pardons,” Welch concluded. “Go out and find people who are in jail, who are less reprobate crackheads, and get them out of jail now too.”
