SELANGOR - Starting from April 1, hiking enthusiasts can apply online for permits to enter Selangor’s permanent forest reserves.

All permit applications for recreational and hiking activities should be submitted through the Selangor Forestry e-Permit System (SeForest) from that date, said the Selangor Forestry Department.

Currently, visitors have to physically seek approval at the department’s district branch offices.

While usage instructions have been uploaded to its social media page, the department said the official application link will be available only from April 1.

Visitors must apply for a permit at least 48 hours before their intended visit. Payment must be made within 24 hours of receiving approval.

“Anyone caught entering a permanent forest reserve without a permit could face legal action under the National Forestry Act 1984, which carries a fine of up to RM30,000 (S$9,060) or up to five years’ imprisonment,” it said.

Since Sept 1, 2024, there has been a cap on the daily number of visitors allowed to enter the 43 recreational and hiking sites in Selangor’s permanent forest reserves.

The Selangor Forestry Department said the limitation was to reduce environmental strain on these sites.

The number of people allowed to enter depends on the capacity of the forest reserve area, ranging from 150 to 300 per day.

Several locations also require visitors to engage the services of a mountain guide for climbing activities.

In another notice, the department said all Eco Forest Parks under its management will be closed on March 31 and April 1 for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
