A serial couture klepto eyed in a luxury-theft spree spanning five states was just nabbed in the
Hamptons for stealing from a pair of tony shops over the holidays, authorities say.
Saba Giunashvili, 33, of Brooklyn was arrested in East Hampton on Dec. 27 after committing
the classic criminal blunder: returning to the scene of his crime, cops told The Post.
His bust in the epicenter of the posh town’s designer valley — featuring stores ranging from
Gucci to Ralph Lauren, Henry Lehr and Zimmerman — capped a two-year sticky-fingered
spree, police said.
In addition to the Hamptons, Giunashvili has been arrested in Secaucus and Hackensack in
New Jersey, Greenburgh in New York, Southbury in Connecticut, Chesterfield County, Va., and
Elmhurst in Illinois, as well as other locations in the tri-state area, officials said.
“These are all the times he’s been caught. Imagine how many he’s gotten away with,’’ a local
law-enforcement source said.
The suspect came on the radar of East Hampton cops when he hit up the Louis Vuitton store at
Newtown Lane and Main Street on the afternoon of Dec. 22, police said.
He lifted a pair of Louis Vuitton Epi metal sunglasses, worth $590, off a clothing rack, put them
in his jacket pocket and walked out without paying, they said.
Five days later, he returned to the same intersection, crossed the street and entered Prada
Milano, cops said.
There, he allegedly swiped a pair of Prada Symbole Acetate sunglasses, valued at $520.
Already on the lookout for Giunashvili, nearby police were alerted by Prada staff, and the
suspect was nabbed about 200 yards away — with both pairs of sunglasses on him, police said.
He was charged with two counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and
two of petty larceny, all misdemeanors.
Giunashvili was later charged in East Hampton with a felony, too — for allegedly flushing
cocaine down the toilet in his holding cell.
Cops didn’t find the coke during a frisk after his theft bust because he had apparently hidden it
in his rectum, police said.
A check of his fingerprints and birth date led the local cops to realize they didn’t have just
another local shoplifter on their hands, authorities said.
They found he had a cascade of prior arrests, all since July 2022, as well as a warrant out for
him in New Jersey in a shoplifting case that could land him up to five years behind bars if
convicted.
He was already convicted after being charged with felony retail theft for swiping a boatload of
cosmetics from a Kohl’s in Elmhurst and remains on probation over it.
He was given $10,000 bail over the East Hampton crimes but remanded for 30 days so New
Jersey authorities can pick him up on the warrant.
Giunashvili’s lawyer, Tony Mirvis, declined to comment on the case, saying he was still
gathering facts.
