One of Britain's most notorious serial killers "does not have long left" after a dramatic deterioration in her health.

Rose West received 10 life sentences in 1995 after she was found guilty of murdering 10 young girls and women with her husband, Fred West.

Following more than a decade incarcerated at Low Newton Prison, Durham, Rose was moved to HMP New Hall, near Wakefield, in the summer of 2019 after fellow inmate Joanna Dennehy plotted to kill her.

And with West now "on her last legs," it appears she may remain there for the rest of her days.

Staff have been forced to put a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (Peep) in place for the murderer, who is becoming increasingly fragile as her health deteriorates.

The Peep is a bespoke escape plan for inmates who are unable to move without help in the event of a fire or serious emergency.

A source told The Sun that West is now in a "really bad way and can now barely move".

They added: "The fact she has this Peep in place shows what a poor state her health is in."

A Peep, the source adds, is "extremely rare" and only used for those in "the most danger if there is an emergency".

The 72-year-old will now have specific staff designated to her as per the plan, who will be on hand with a wheelchair or other necessary equipment.

"They owe her a duty of care, despite who she is," the source said.

"People have been talking about how West is on her last legs and does not have long left because of her health.

"She cannot leave her wing and is also resigned to dying in jail."

The source also told the outlet West is "decrepit" and "rarely goes outside and cannot go to the gym or take part in activities like yoga".

"It looks like the last days of Rose," they added.

West has spent 31 years behind bars for her role in the murders of 10 girls and women at the couple's Cromwell Street home in Gloucester.

Her husband Fred, who took his own life at the age of 53 while awaiting trial in 1995, buried several of the bodies beneath their house.

Horrifyingly, one of them was their 16-year-old daughter Heather, who was murdered in June 1987, while the youngest victim was Rose's eight-year-old stepdaughter Charmaine.

25 Cromwell Street has since been dubbed the "House of Horrors" and was demolished in 1996 to be converted into a walkway.

The couple's victims include Lynda Gough, Carole Ann Cooper, Lucy Partington, Therese Siegenthaler, Shirley Hubbard, Juanita Mott, Shirley Anne Robinson and Alison Chambers.

Fred had also murdered his first wife, Catherine Costello, and lover, Ann McFall.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Rose had sexually assaulted a young female prisoner.

She reportedly targeted a vulnerable inmate in her 20s, spending weeks grooming her before carrying out the attack in her cell.

Prison authorities disciplined West and removed her enhanced prisoner status following the incident.

A Prison Service spokesman said: "Rose West’s crimes were horrific, and she will rightly spend the rest of her life behind bars."
