Two Singapore ministers are taking legal action against Bloomberg for an article that they believe contains libellous statements on property transactions in the city state involving them.
“We have taken legal advice and will be issuing letters of demand in relation to that article. We will be taking similar action against others who have also published libellous statements about those transactions,” Singapore’s Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said in a post on his Facebook page on Monday.
Manpower Minister Tan See Leng published a similar post on the matter on his Facebook page a short while later.
Both ministers said in their posts: “We take a serious view of the allegations.” They did not mention the title of the “libellous article” published on December 12 in their posts.
A Bloomberg article titled “Singapore mansion deals are increasingly shrouded in secrecy” referred to luxury properties or so-called good-class bungalows, and mentioned transactions involving the two ministers.
Several international news organisations have run into legal troubles with politicians in the city state over the years.
