Newly unemployed Jim Acosta appeared to know his days were numbered at CNN weeks before announcing he'd refused a demotion to midnight.
Acosta has announced his new career move after revealing that he would be leaving CNN in a tantrum on Tuesday.
The anchor announced that he launched a brand-new Substack - just hours after making his final on-air broadcast with the legacy media outlet.
It appears that the new venture - which he is calling 'The Jim Acosta Show' - has been in the works since at least January 16, which is when the first post on the Substack is dated.
The post comes just one day after former CNN staffer Oliver Darcy broke the news of Acosta's possible move to midnight in his Status newsletter.
It comes with a headline of 'Coming Soon' and the copy reads only: 'This is The Jim Acosta Show.'
The newly announced Substack, meanwhile, will see him rub shoulders with others who have left their respective legacy news stations for more autonomy, including Darcy.
Darcy's success with a newsletter format shows a shifting landscape in terms of news - one CEO Mark Thompson has seemingly caught wind of upon airing his intent to shift CNN's operations to being more digital-based last week.

'Welcome to my new venture,' Acosta told more than two million followers on X, while repeating a warning he delivered during his final broadcast.
The video was published shortly after two people familiar with the matter told The New York Times the journalist was already pondering his next steps, including a potential launch of his own journalistic enterprise.
Hours before, the anchor engaged in a very public split from the station, taking shots at Donald Trump in the process. Acosta framed his old enemy as 'a tyrant', after devoting much of the hour to report on his recent moves.
Trump was thrilled, decrying Acosta as a 'major loser' in a Truth Social post after reports surfaced about his decision to leave.
'Wow, really good news!' he wrote on social media. 'Jim Acosta, one of the worst and most dishonest reporters in journalistic history, a major sleazebag, has been relegated by CNN Fake News to the Midnight hour, “Death Valley,” because of extraordinarily BAD RATINGS (and no talent!)."
Acosta reportedly was losing his morning show in the latest CNN revamp, with the idea of getting moved to a midnight shift.
Trump indicated he had little faith in Acosta's talent, after the famous CNN figure announced he would make his future known at a later date.
"Word is that he wants to QUIT, and that would be even better,' he wrote. 'Jim is a major loser who will fail no matter where he ends up. Good luck Jim!'

U.S. President Donald Trump answers a question from Jim Acosta of CNN during a press conference
Acosta gave a dramatic farewell message to viewers on Tuesday, revealing that the highlight of his career as a journalist was when he asked Raul Castro at a joint press conference with former President Barack Obama.
He indicated that Trump was a 'tyrant' as he delivered his closing missive to viewers.
'My closing message: It’s never a good time to bow down to a tyrant… don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to fear. Hold on to the truth… and hope,' he said.
The most contentious moment of his White House career was when he stubbornly refused to release a microphone to a Trump staffer during a press conference in November.
'CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them. You are a rude terrible person. You shouldn't be working for CNN,' the president said to Acosta, accusing him of being 'horrible' to people in his staff.
The White House revoked Acosta's press pass after the contentious exchange but a subsequent lawsuit and a decision from a federal judge sided with CNN, allowing his credentials to be restored.
Trump supporters frequently mocked Acosta on the campaign trail repeatedly shouting that 'CNN sucks' and accusing him of being 'fake news.'
During an October 2020 rally, a masked Acosta shot back at Trump supporters during a live report.
'As this crowd is chanting that there are members of the press here who suck, I should also point out … what also sucks: getting the coronavirus,' he said.
