TL;DR: Panini is launching its first Sonic the Hedgehog trading card collection, featuring classic and modern versions of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Dr. Eggman, plus rare Color Blast, Kaboom!, Tie-Dye Prizms, and 1-of-1 Black Prizms.

Sonic the Hedgehog is getting the trading card treatment for the first time, thanks to Panini America. The new collection brings together characters from across the franchise's classic and modern eras, with a mix of standard cards and harder-to-find inserts.

And if you're into the whole thrill-of-the-pull side of collecting, there are some rare cards hiding in these packs. Sonic is obviously front and center, but Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Dr. Eggman are all also along for the ride.

There are also several themed inserts to look for, including Negative Space, Eggman Empire, and Artistry in Motion. So there's more to chase than just the main character cards.

The cards to chase

For collectors who like hunting the big pulls, Panini is adding several ultra-rare and limited-edition cards to the mix. The collection includes Color Blast and Kaboom! cards featuring Sonic and other characters.

There are also Tie-Dye Prizms numbered to five, meaning only five copies of each specific card exist, along with 1-of-1 Black Prizms that are, as the name suggests, one-of-a-kind.

How to collect

Panini is releasing the Sonic collection in Hobby, Hobby Preferred, and retail configurations, so collectors will have different ways to get into the set. The Hobby configuration comes with six cards per pack, six packs per box, and 12 boxes per case.

The collection spans Sonic's classic and modern eras, so whether you've been following the Blue Blur since Green Hill Zone or came to the franchise more recently, there's plenty of familiar stuff to hunt down.

Now, all that’s left is to see which Sonic card you will pull first.
