Sony has agreed to pay out almost $8 million to PlayStation players who paid higher prices for certain digital games, and you might be able to grab a piece of the pie.
There have been plenty of arguments about the ownership of digital games over the last few months, with gamers trying to ensure their rights are protected. Lawsuits have been filed against a few different places on that front too.
That includes a lawsuit over Sony’s decision to stop allowing third-party retailers to sell individual download codes for different games back in 2019. You had to go directly through Sony rather than Amazon or somewhere else for a few years there.
The lawsuit argued that Sony forced customers to go through them with the move, leading to higher price points. While Sony denies any wrongdoing and no judgment has been made by the courts, the PlayStation brand has agreed to settle the case for around $8 million.
PlayStation players set for refund over game prices
As per the PSNDigitalGamesSettlement website, eligible players will receive their slice of the payout as a credit to their PSN account without needing to do anything.
However, if you have disabled your account, you are able to request a cheque. The deadline for cheques was August 27, but you might be able to request an extension, provided you have legal assistance.
Additionally, to get the payout, you have to be US-based and have purchased one of the games listed in the court documents between April 1, 2019 and December 31, 2023. You can check your PSN purchase history for that.
