Spanish holiday hotspots have been rocked by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake that left dozens injured.

Tourists were evacuated from their hotels after tremors were felt around 20km south west of Granada at around 10.38am local time, causing substantial damage across the historic city.

So far, three people have been injured, including one girl who was hospitalised, Andalusia's senior emergencies official confirmed.

Meanwhile, emergency services were hit with more than 50 calls to report instances of falling debris and cracks in buildings.

Pictures from the affected region showed damage to vehicles, as well as rubble left thrown across the road.

Andalusia's president Juanma Moreno warned residents that "seismic movements and aftershocks" could still occur.

On social media, he wrote: "Once again, an earthquake shakes Granada. Maximum CAUTION.

"Experts point out that seismic movements and aftershocks may continue in the area, and it is important to know how we should act in these situations.
