‘The Apprentice’ Star: ‘We Have To Stop Pretending That Trump Is Not One Of Us’

“The Apprentice” star Sebastian Stan said “we have to stop pretending that Trump is not one of us” following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.

Speaking to reporters about his portrayal of Trump in the fictionalized biopic, Stan talked about the president-elect not only winning the Electoral College, but the popular vote as well against Vice President Kamala Harris, as liberals in Hollywood and media continue to label him as a “fascist” and more.

“We have to stop pretending that Trump is not one of us,” Stan said, mentioning a recent New York Times Op-Ed. “I understand the emotions are very high, but I think that’s the only way you’re going to grasp this film. All it’s saying is you cannot keep casting this person aside, especially after they get the popular vote.”

“Should we not give this a closer look and try to understand what it is about this person that’s even driving that,” he added. “I don’t know if the love is gonna translate into action, but it’s certainly there from what we’re hearing.”

At one point, the “Marvel” star said he recently failed to find one star willing to do an interview about his part in the movie for a Variety show because he claimed they were “too afraid” to say anything publicly.

“The amount of love that I’ve received from some of the biggest, both of us I think, in terms of actors, directors, producers, writers who’ve seen the movie and rave about it, they rave about it,” Stan said.

“But then, I had an offer to do Variety Actor on Actor this Friday, and I couldn’t find another actor to do it with me because they were too afraid to go and talk about this movie, so I couldn’t do it,” he added.

“And it doesn’t matter, that’s OK, that’s not to point a finger at anybody,” Stan continued. “That’s not pointing at anyone specific, we couldn’t get past the publicists or the people representing them because they were too afraid to talk about this movie.”

Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh confirmed the story.

“We invited him to participate in Actors on Actors, the biggest franchise of awards season, but other actors didn’t want to pair with him because they didn’t want to talk about Donald Trump,” Setoodeh shared in a statement to Mediaite.

Directed by Iranian-Danish filmmaker Ali Abbasi, “The Apprentice” told a fictionalized story of “how a young Donald Trump started his real estate business in 1970s and 80s New York with the helping hand of infamous lawyer Roy Cohn,” a description of the movie on IMDb reads.
