Tom Brady lost nearly 20 pounds, became ‘empty shell’ as Gisele Bündchen marriage imploded: insiders

Tom Brady was said to have wasted away as his marriage to supermodel Gisele Bündchen faltered.

In an excerpt from Lars Anderson’s forthcoming book “Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness,” which was obtained by Daily Mail on Friday, the author claims Brady’s teammates became worried as he lost an estimated 20 pounds — and his “vibrancy of spirit” — in the lead-up to their 2022 divorce.

“For Tom to lose that much weight, on his frame, it was a lot,” former Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians says in the book.

“It was very clear that the reason for the weight loss was the stress from the personal issues he was dealing with.”

Per the outlet’s excerpt, another coach claims the NFL alum’s “cheekbones had freaking cheekbones.”

“With all respect, he looked like a cancer patient with really good hair,” they add. “He just seemed miserable, not even close to the Tom we all loved. He was so stressed.”

Reps for Brady and Bündchen did not get back to Page Six for comment regarding Anderson’s upcoming book.

The book — which is set to hit shelves Tuesday — makes a deluge of additional claims about the unraveling of the former power couple’s longtime marriage, according to the lengthy excerpt.

The book claims both spouses made desperate attempts to save the union after welcoming kids Benjamin Rein, 16, and Vivian Lake, 13, with the former Victoria’s Secret angel allegedly penning a heartfelt letter to the football star.

Following the New England Patriots’ 2018 Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Anderson writes that Bündchen “explained that their marriage wasn’t working” and insisted that “she needed more of him, more of his time, more of his attention, more of his heart.”

The letter also allegedly said that the model needed her spouse to be more “present,” and that she “needed more time for her own career,” the author claims.”

A teammate said, “How many times did you see Tom supporting her career?” and noted, “There clearly were imbalances there” — especially given that Bündchen was “a bigger international star than” her former spouse.

According to the biography, Brady — who initially announced his retirement early in 2022, only to play another season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and retire “for good” in 2023 — made his own 11-day attempt to save the union, allegedly telling coach Clyde Christensen that he needed to “take care of some personal things” before leaving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2022 training camp.

He then headed to a private resort in the Bahamas, where he met with Bündchen to work on their marriage.

The coach said he “didn’t know if [Brady] was ever coming back” and said when he did return 11 days later, the quarterback “was an empty shell of who he was.”

In the end, none of it was enough, and the Brazilian bombshell allegedly issued the declaration, “We’re not compatible.”

“And just like that, she was done,” an insider says of the couple in the book.

Brady and Bündchen tied the knot in 2009 and parted ways for good in 2022.

The football star also shares son Jack Moynahan, 19, with ex Bridget Moynahan. Bündchen, meanwhile, welcomed a son with Joaquim Valente in February 2025, before marrying the jiu-jitsu instructor late last year.
