Torrent of water floods the streets of Los Angeles again — as another sinkhole opens up

Another water main break has wreaked havoc in Los Angeles, sending floods down city streets for the fourth time in two weeks.

A sinkhole opened up in the Fairfax District overnight Tuesday at the intersection of First Street and Detroit Avenue.

Shocking video shows the torrent flooding the street and causing the hole to open up in the road.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said a break occurred in an eight-inch line, with crews shutting down First street between La Brea Avenue and Detroit so workers could fix it.

The water was shut off so crews could set about repairing the line. LADWP said, besides the drivers having to find alternative paths, one customer was affected.

By Tuesday afternoon the repairs were completed and service was restored. It comes just days after a water main burst in the city, sending water rushing through the streets on Friday.

The rupture —near Paramount Studios and Hollywood Forever Cemetery – at the intersection of Romaine Street and North Wilson Place.

The Los Angeles Fire Department shut down Romaine Street while crews responded, though no injuries or property damage were reported.

It occurred one day after another water main ruptured in the area-this one at Santa Monica Boulevard and Laurel Avenue when a 6-inch cast iron water pipe, installed more than 100 years ago, gave way, affecting dozens of customers.

The ruptures occurred just miles from where crews worked to repair the massive sinkhole in West Hollywood at Sunset Boulevard and Holloway Drive. The collapse was triggered when a 36-inch cast-iron water main ruptured, sending more than 17 millions of gallons of water through the area on July 16.

Crews worked day and night to repair the roads and sidewalks and pave over the giant sinkhole that made commuting in the area a nightmare for days.

LADWP announced on Friday the closed sections could finally reopen with a temporary fix, while crews continue working in the area to complete “permanent street paving.”

“While the emergency road repairs will allow us to reopen the street, the street paving is temporary,” a press release read.

The break sent massive amounts of water through the streets, causing damage to property, homes and businesses, along with destroying roads.

The flooding damaged the popular Dialog Cafe, and footage from the establishment captured the shocking moment the flooding began.

Multiple burst pipes across the city have worsened concerns about the city’s aging infrastructure.
