We look ahead to Sunday afternoon’s London derby with our Tottenham vs London City Lionesses prediction and preview, as Spurs look to cement second place in WSL table.

Tottenham vs London City: The Key Stats

  • According to the Opta supercomputer, Tottenham are favourites to claim the derby bragging rights, winning 45.9% of the 10,000 simulations.
  • Only in 2021-22 (12) have Spurs won more points after four games of a WSL campaign than their 10 so far this term (W3 D1), though a win in this game will see them set a club record for their best points return after five matches.
  • London City were 2-0 winners against Brighton on MD4, their first clean sheet in 14 league matches; only once before have they kept back-to-back clean sheets in the WSL.

Since the start of April, only Chelsea (2.7) and Manchester City (2.6) have averaged more points per game in the Women’s Super League than Tottenham Hotspur (2.4) and London City Lionesses (2.1). With two of the division’s current top four sides going head-to-head, Sunday’s clash promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the weekend.

Tottenham have emerged as one of the surprise packages of the new season, but their impressive start under Martin Ho is increasingly looking like something much more significant than simply a strong opening to the campaign.

Spurs have carried their momentum from last campaign into 2026-27, establishing themselves among the league’s best in its early stages. Wins against West Ham (3-1), Crystal Palace (7-0) and Aston Villa (4-0) as well as a respectable draw at Liverpool (1-1) have them in second place.

Not only have Tottenham collected their second best points total (10) at this stage of a WSL season, but Ho has added real quality to his squad, and the transformation is evident in how his side are playing.

Each of the four longest passing sequences leading to goals in the WSL this season have belonged to Spurs. They are the only side to score following a sequence of 10 or more passes, and lead the competition for goals from build-up attacks (4), while only Manchester City (23) have produced more build-up attacks than Tottenham’s 22.

That control is translating into extraordinary attacking dominance.

Tottenham have attempted 77 shots while accumulating an expected goals (xG) of 9.3 , becoming the first team in WSL history to register 35 or more shots in consecutive games – 42 against Crystal Palace and another 35 against Aston Villa.

At the heart of that attacking transformation is a squad combining proven WSL quality with exciting young talent.

Victoria Pelova is the joint-leading scorer in the WSL this season after hitting braces in each of Tottenham’s last two matches. Another double against London City would make her just the fifth player to score multiple goals in three consecutive WSL appearances, and the first since Rachel Daly in May 2023.

Alongside her, 21-year-old Signe Gaupset has made her presence felt. Against Aston Villa on MD4, the Norwegian became the youngest player in WSL history to create eight chances from open play in a single match. She leads the competition this season for both chances created (18) and assists (three).

So this isn’t simply a Tottenham side getting results. Ho has built a team capable of controlling possession, constructing attacks patiently and overwhelming opponents, and the early evidence suggests Spurs are becoming an increasingly serious force in the WSL.

London City Lionesses have lived up to much of the early hype following another ambitious summer transfer window that brought a host of established stars to the club.

But if their ambition is to challenge the WSL’s leading sides and compete for Champions League qualification, these are the games in which they will want to make a statement.

They arrive at the BetWright Stadium with momentum after a 2-0 victory over Brighton on MD4, a result delivered their first clean sheet in 14 league matches, although they have only once previously recorded successive WSL shutouts, against Liverpool and West Ham in October 2025.

There was also a significant moment at the other end of the pitch, with former Ballon d’or winner Alexia Putellas scoring her first goal for the Bromley-based side.

The Spaniard’s strike ended her longest top-flight goal drought since 2017, having gone seven league appearances without scoring.

And history suggests that when Putellas finds the net, her team usually wins: she has finished on the winning side in 129 of the last 130 league matches in which she has scored.

Putellas (19) also leads her London City teammates for attacking sequence involvements in the WSL this term, though Daniëlle van de Donk (18) and Grace Geyoro (17) follow close behind.

With London City’s star names beginning to make their mark, Sunday represents another important test of just how quickly this ambitious team can establish itself among the WSL’s leading sides.

Tottenham vs London City Head-to-Head

There has been little to separate these two in their recent meetings, with home advantage proving decisive in both WSL encounters last season.

London City ran out 4-2 winners in November 2025, before Tottenham responded with a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture in May.

But the wider record in north London makes much better reading for Spurs. London City have lost all three of their away matches against Tottenham in all competitions, conceding 11 goals and scoring just once.

With both sides making impressive starts to the season, Sunday’s latest derby promises to be another fascinating test of their ambitions.
