Chagossians are “being treated like cattle” as the Labour Government continues its attempts to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, a top barrister has claimed.
Speaking on GB News, Steven Bartlett said Labour is unintentionally committing an act of “evil” by pressing ahead with its haphazard surrender of sovereignty.
It comes after the government of Mauritius issued a statement after once again rejecting Labour’s Chagos deal in yet another blow to Sir Keir Starmer’s government.
“When you get a government that’s completely ideologically captured, it ends up doing things which are just bonkers”, Bartlett said on GB News.

He added: “Very few humans are actually genuinely motivated to commit evil or to do stupid things.
“This is quite evil to the Chagossian people who were being completely treated like cattle, but it probably falls into the line marked incompetence than actual evil.
“We need to grow up. This is absolutely risible. It’s a mistake of law. There is no legal case for giving away the Chagos Islands.
“We don’t need to give them away. The right to self-determination of the Chagos Islanders is being ignored. That matters. This is what happens when they fall into this cult.”

In a statement following a cabinet meeting today, the Mauritian government declared their "commitment and resolve" to end the long-running sovereignty dispute "remains unshaken."
The cabinet met this morning under Prime Minister Navin Ramgoola's chairmanship to discuss recent developments regarding the proposed treaty on sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago.
The Attorney General of Mauritius recently travelled to London for discussions about the proposed treaty.
He will return to London this evening to continue negotiations with the UK government.
The Prime Minister's office confirmed that upon the Attorney General's return, the Cabinet will be updated on the situation.
These developments were outlined in the highlights of today's cabinet meeting, which focused on reviewing progress following the Attorney General's recent diplomatic mission.
