Let’s get it on!
Fans in Washington D.C. turned up for the hockey game between their hometown Capitals and Ottawa Senators, and ended up getting treated to a heavyweight fight in the process. (RELATED: Wild Pushing Match Breaks Out Between Hockey Parents At South Dakota Youth Game)
Near the end of the first period, both Washington right wing Tom Wilson and Ottawa left wing Brady Tkachuk were active on the ice. And both have a reputation of being scrappers and easily getting drawn into brawls. In his career, Wilson has been in a whopping 98 fights, while Tkachuk has been in 35.
To make the situation between the two even crazier, they haven’t met in their entire careers prior to Monday. And boy oh boy, did they let the fireworks fly when they finally got the chance to.

Is it me, or has the violence ratcheted up in the NHL?
And don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely loving it. It just seems like we’re getting more fights than usual, and it won’t do anything but help the game grow.
Hockey has been on a roll lately with the violence and the 4 Nations Face-Off to go along with the swagger they already have, plus, the Winter Olympics are next year. If they can tweak a few things culture wise (in other words, make it more “cool”), the NHL could potentially pass leagues like the NBA and MLB in popularity.
Regardless though, good work on the NHL‘s part for making the game grow.
