With the help of the AI-powered Opta supercomputer, we provide our UEFA Champions League match predictions for every game across the 2026-27 competition.
The Opta supercomputer will again be with us every step of the way in the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League as the model works to provide you with data-backed predictions for all matches and season outcomes.
Paris Saint-Germain have won back-to-back Champions League crowns after their penalty-shootout win over Arsenal in last season’s final, and they are among the favourites once again this time around. Real Madrid were the last team to win the UCL in three consecutive seasons, doing so in 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18.
The Spanish giants, alongside rivals Barcelona, will be among the leading contenders in 2026-27, along with a host of Premier League clubs. There will be five English top-flight teams competing in the league phase this time around, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool among the favourites, and Manchester United alongside Aston Villa in the chasing pack.
Bayern Munich haven’t won the Champions League since 2020, but will undoubtedly be in the mix again this season, while Serie A clubs Inter Milan, Como, Napoli and Roma will be hoping to end a 17-year wait for an Italian winner.
Below, Opta Analyst provides detailed predictions for each game from Matchday 2, powered by thousands of simulations from the Opta supercomputer.
Matchday 3
Tuesday 20 October
After a record-breaking matchday last week, the UEFA Champions League returns for gameweek three of the league phase.
There were more goals scored on MD2 (78) than on any previous matchday in UCL history, and fans will hope to see many more as the action kicks off with two early games in Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Sabah earned their first-ever win in the UEFA Champions League (outside of qualifiers) last week, beating Slavia Prague 2-0 thanks to two second-half goals. They face a much harder test in front of their own fans this week, though, coming up against Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund have won all four of their matches against Azerbaijani opponents in European competition (including qualifiers), and the Opta supercomputer is backing them to make it five from five this week. BVB won 68.9% of its 10,000 pre-game simulations.
After that defeat to Sabah on MD2, Slavia Prague head to Fenerbahçe looking to win their first points of the UCL campaign. The Opta supercomputer isn’t too confident on their chances of doing that, though, with the Turkish side winning 55.1% of its pre-game simulations.
Fenerbahçe were comprehensively thrashed 6-0 at Aston Villa last week, but they might be facing the perfect opponent to bounce back. Slavia have now gone 21 consecutive Champions League matches without a win (D7 L14).
The standout match on Tuesday night is Paris Saint-Germain vs Barcelona, with two of the biggest clubs in world football currently occupying first and second place in the league-phase table after two matchdays.
Reigning champions PSG will be looking for a third successive win against Barcelona. Only Bayern Munich (May 2015-October 2022) has ever done that previously in UCL history. The Opta supercomputer had a hard time picking a winner in this tie, but PSG just edged it (39.7%) over Barcelona (37.7%) in the pre-match sims.
Most eyes on Tuesday will be on this game, and for good reason. Of fixtures played 10+ times in European Cup/Champions League history, only Ajax vs Bayern Munich (3.9) has a higher goals-per-game ratio than Paris Saint-Germain vs Barcelona (3.8 – 57 goals in 15 meetings).
Manchester City lost 4-2 in an action-packed meeting with PSG last week and will look to return to form with a home game against AEK Athens.
The last team from outside of Europe’s big five leagues to win away at Man City in the Champions League was Basel in March 2018 (1-2). Since then, they are unbeaten in 15 (W12 D3), averaging three goals per match (3.1 – 46 in total).
AEK will also come up against the red-hot Erling Haaland, who now has 61 goals in 60 UEFA Champions League appearances, including 27 in 22 matches against teams from outside the top five European leagues.
The threat of Haaland is one reason for the Opta supercomputer’s lopsided match prediction, with City winning 83.0% of its simulations and the Greek club winning just 6.8%.
Liverpool are another side heavily backed to win at home on MD3, with the Premier League side defeating Villarreal across 61.4% of 10,000 pre-match simulations.
That’s not surprising, given that Villarreal haven’t won any of their 16 games against English sides in the Champions League (D6 L10), scoring just five goals in total, and losing each of the last nine in a row.
Further home wins are predicted on Tuesday for Roma (77.2% vs Slovan Bratislava), Napoli (56.6% vs Bodø/Glimt) and FC Porto (56.3% vs PSV), while Atlético Madrid are backed to win on the road against Stuttgart (44.9%).

Wednesday 21 October
One of the early kick-offs on Wednesday sees Cesc Fàbregas’ Como host Premier League giants Manchester United.
Both sides will hope to make amends for defeats on MD2, with United losing against Atlético Madrid before defender Lisandro Martínez controversially called out the club’s hierarchy in a post-match interview.
Como lost 3-2 at Feyenoord last Wednesday, but home advantage could be key here. United have won just one of their last 10 away games in the UCL, while Como enjoyed a superb 4-1 win over RB Leipzig at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on MD1.
The Opta supercomputer has a Como home win as the most likely result, with the Serie A side beating Michael Carrick’s Man Utd in 41.7% of its sims.
It’s a similar projection for the other early kick-off on Wednesday evening as well, with another home victory expected in the match between Lille and Galatasaray. The Ligue 1 club won in 44.5% of the supercomputer’s simulations.
The most eye-catching game on Wednesday, though, is Arsenal’s trip to Bayern Munich.
Two of Europe’s best-performing clubs in recent years face off at the Allianz Arena, with Arsenal looking to replicate last season’s 3-1 win over the Germans in the league phase. That was one of 14 successive league-phase wins for the Gunners, with the latest coming on MD2 at home to Lille (3-0).
Arsenal will have to stop Harry Kane, though. The former Tottenham striker has scored 15 goals in 22 career appearances vs Arsenal – his third-highest total against an opponent in his career. He’s only netted more against Leicester (20 in 20 games) and Everton (16 in 17 games).
One stat to remember, however, is that Arsenal have lost 53% of their games against Bayern Munich (8/15). Of the sides they have faced 5+ times in major European competition, only against Barcelona (67% – 6/9) do they have a higher loss percentage.
The Opta supercomputer is siding with Bayern here too, with the home side winning 45.0% of its pre-game simulations compared to Arsenal’s 30.7%-win rate.
Real Madrid left it late to secure all three points in their MD2 trip to Roma. They were 3-1 down with just seven minutes left but eventually prevailed 4-3 thanks to Antonio Rüdiger’s 90th-minute winner.
They host RB Leipzig on MD3, with Kylian Mbappé looking to create more history. The Frenchman has been involved in 97 goals in 100 UCL games (72 goals, 25 assists). Only four players have ever recorded 100 goal involvements in the competition, and if he were to get three in this game, Mbappé would become the joint-fastest on 101 games (Lionel Messi 101 games, Robert Lewandowski 102, Cristiano Ronaldo 114 and Karim Benzema 134).
The Opta supercomputer is confident of success for José Mourinho’s side in this clash, with Madrid winning at the Bernabéu in 70.5% of its simulations before kick-off.
Aston Villa were the biggest winners on MD2 thanks to their 6-0 battering over Fenerbahçe. Unai Emery’s side are one of the supercomputer’s most confident picks for victory on MD3 too, beating Viking across 72.0% of pre-match sims. If they do win, it’ll be the first time that Villa have won four successive games in the European Cup/Champions League.
Two other clubs with two wins from two in the UCL this season also host matches on Wednesday night.
Sporting CP will be confident of collecting another three points at home to LASK, with the Opta supercomputer seeing them do just that in 74.1% of its pre-match simulations, while Real Betis are also backed for glory in front of a home crowd in their meeting with Feyenoord (59.4%).
Internazionale suffered a shock 4-3 defeat at home to Club Brugge last Tuesday but have the opportunity to make amends for that loss with another home game – this time against Shakhtar Donetsk at the San Siro.
Inter are currently on their longest-ever losing streak in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League (four matches), but the supercomputer strongly backs a return to form in this clash. They won 75.0% of its 10,000 pre-match simulations.
Unlike their defeated opponents, Club Brugge enter MD3 on a high thanks to that win in Italy.
Nicolò Tresoldi was the hero, scoring a hat-trick in the shock victory. He’s now on seven goals in 12 games for the club in the Champions League and will believe he can add to that tally against a Lens side that have conceded in each of their last 15 games in the competition.
Club Brugge won both of their games against French sides in the Champions League last season, both by a three-goal margin (4-1 vs Monaco and 3-1 vs Marseille). The Opta supercomputer is backing them to win a third in succession, as the Belgian side prevailed in 45.6% of its 10,000 simulations before kick-off.
