A new bus stop has been installed in a Derbyshire village, even though a bus hasn't stopped there for almost 10 years.
Residents have criticised the installation of a new bus stop in Eggington, near Burton-upon-Trent, despite the fact that they haven't had a bus service since 2017.
The East Midlands Combined County Authority confirmed that the bus stop in Main Street was installed in the event that bus services were returned to the village of Eggington.
Local people in the Derbyshire village said they have been forced to drive or get taxis to access services since the hourly V2 Village route was axed in 2017.
Speaking to the BBC, Kathryn Bishop said the previous bus stop had been damaged, noting that it was humorous at first.
However, it quickly turned into bewilderment after she saw a new bus stop being installed a few days later.
The V2 Villager was withdrawn by bus operator trentbarton in 2017 as a result of low passenger numbers.
Egginton, which has an estimated population of only a few hundred, does not have a shop, post office or GP surgery.

As a result, many local residents have to travel further to access basic necessities, including doctors, supermarkets and other amenities.
Parish councillor Tanina Rushton noted that young people in the area need public transport, in addition to the elderly and disabled population.
This was echoed by Roz Wherly, who told the BBC: "I've got a car but in years to come I would need transport to get into Derby and Burton."
The long-term Egginton resident added: "A bus gives you freedom to travel, to go and meet people, do your shopping, everything."
There have been further calls for public transport access to be restored, especially with the installation of the new bus stop sign.
Young people have suggested that bus services could return for the changing demographic and to minimise the use of cars in the area.
Samantha Niblett, Labour MP for South Derbyshire, posted a TikTok video, calling for the bus service to return to the village.
She said: "See this bus stop here, in Egginton. Well it used to be there, but it rotted away, so the council got rid of it and put a new one in.

"Trouble is, there's not been a bus going through Egginton for about 12 years. So I'm going to help the local residents that this is bothering, and understandably so, try and get a bus service going through Egginton."
A spokesperson for the East Midlands Combined County Authority said: "The decision to move the bus stop on Main Street, Egginton, was made by Derbyshire County Council in 2025, before East Midlands Combined County Authority took over responsibility for local bus services in 2026.
"The original bus stop pole had become badly corroded and posed a safety risk, so it was removed and replaced at the nearest suitable location in December 2025.
"Although Egginton doesn't currently have a regular bus service, the stop was kept in place in case services return in the future."
