Warzone’s devs have confirmed that the divisive Grappling Hooks will be removed from both Battle Royale and Resurgence playlists in a future update.

Grappling Hooks had been tested in Warzone since December’s Black Ops 7 integration, then arrived in all modes with the Season 3 update. Opinions on them varied: some loved the fast-paced gameplay and flanking opportunities, while others felt they changed the game too much and ruined the flow.

However, no matter which side of the fence players were on, almost all wanted the game-breaking grappling hook glitch removed. Here, the hook gets stuck on a surface, trapping you in a glitchy animation you can’t escape. This has been going on for months, and the devs confirmed it won’t be in the game much longer — but neither will the Grappling Hooks themselves.

“We plan on removing Grappling Hooks from standard Battle Royale and Resurgence playlists later this month,” confirmed Warzone devs Raven Software on August 5.

While Grappling Hooks may be removed as part of Season 5 Reloaded, we don’t expect this update until early September to avoid a clash with Modern Warfare 4’s betas, so it’ll likely happen in a smaller update sometime later in August.

Response to the decision to remove them has been split. Some streamers, such as HusKerrs, said, “this is a great decision overall for both casual and [competitive] WZ.”

Might be a hot take, but I think this is a great decision overall for both casual and comp WZ. I loved the grappling hook from Blackout, but I don't think they properly implemented this new one https://t.co/lPixS7YEZZ

“I’m all for it, grapple hooks mess with positioning in endgames,” replied streamer CPreds. “You used to have try to position yourself to play angles and rotate based on zone pulls, now you just immediately take high ground. I think grapples should stay in LTMs.”

Tons of players in the replies were delighted to see them go, but there were also lots unhappy about it.

“Going to miss Grapples. Truly turned game into a sandbox where if you could think it, you could do it,” said streamer Speros. “Removing them from Resurgence makes total sense cause the maps are too small/fast paced to support them, but for BR we need them unless they do a massive overhaul to the maps.”

Grappling hooks are one of if not the funnest items ever added to Warzone… that’s a hot take I guess, would hate to see them go https://t.co/bV07FYdqTv

It seems Grappling Hooks will still be available in the Black Ops Royale mode, but they won’t be in Battle Royale or Resurgence modes for much longer.
