‘We Can Do Better’: Megyn Slams ‘Disgusting’ Andrew Cuomo After He Announces NYC Mayoral Bid

Andrew Cuomo just keeps resurfacing, and this time he wants us to make him mayor of New York City even though he is a disgusting, terrible person.

The Nursing Home Scandal

As governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo had a direct role in causing the deaths of some 9,000 New York nursing home patients during COVID. His order required nursing homes take COVID-positive patients without doing any testing. He took the sickest and put them right in the heart of the most vulnerable populations of New York. People did die, and, in my opinion, that is squarely on him.

He then undercounted the number of dead in New York nursing homes by at least half to cover up the numbers. Why? Because his political ambitions saw him – in his own mind – becoming the next president of the United States.

The nursing home scandal is what had Janice Dean and her husband, FDNY Battalion Chief Sean Newman, so open arms for years. Her husband’s parents, Michael and Dolores Newman, were both killed in New York nursing homes by COVID. They went in two and a half weeks before this order.

I know Janice and Sean very, very well. She is one of my closest friends, and he is the dearest, most wonderful guy you will ever meet in your life. He wrote a letter to his union, the Uniformed Fire Officers Association, over the weekend and went off on this.

He wrote, “I want to express my opposition to Andrew Cuomo’s candidacy or any attempt by him to return to public office.” He said he is “corrupt, dishonest and uses well-known intimidation tactics to get his way” and the nursing home policy was “designed to be in the best interest of healthcare executives and officials, not an aging population with compromised immune systems. These decisions were based on politics and exacting control on the population.”

He pointed out we had the USS Comfort and the Javits Center totally empty during the crisis. They could have sent COVID-positive patients there. Cuomo didn’t. The hospitals were packed. The nursing homes were packed. He “had us all fooled — beginning with his version of fireside chats” and “daily pep talks” that were watched by the whole country. “He did not see it as an opportunity to truly lead in crisis,” Sean wrote, “but to set up his next political leap.”

I am very proud of Sean because, unlike Janice, he is reserved. He doesn’t like being out there publicly. He wants to fight fires and now he fights terrorism, and that is what he wants to do. But he is so pissed about Andrew Cuomo.

The #MeToo Scandal

Amazingly, that scandal did not tank Cuomo, nor the fact that he closed New York schools for a year, nor did the fact that he went soft on crime, nor did the fact that he banned fracking. That did not do him. What doomed him was the #MeToo allegations that came up against him after all this – really, it was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Some 11 or 12 women went on the record saying he felt them up or behaved inappropriately with them, and New York Attorney General Leticia James came in and said the allegations were real and he’s got a serious problem. That is when he tried to tell us his behavior was because… he is an Italian.

I am here to tell you that my Pop Pop was 100 percent Italian, my mom is 50 percent Italian, and I am 25 percent Italian. Being Italian does not make you feel people up inappropriately or behave inappropriately at work. I know this. My Pop Pop never touched a woman inappropriately, Andrew. He was a great Italian.

Screw you for disparaging my people in this way and for thinking you can come back. Is this the best we can do for New York City?

‘We Can Do Better’

Andrew Cuomo is now trying to reinvent himself as a moderate, which he is not. Please remember this when you were looking at the ballot. The polls show him leading the Democratic primary because of name recognition, but we have seen that – when people are reminded of his dastardly deeds – they come back down to earth. He is beatable.

In an era in which New York State moved more to the right and New York City even moved a little bit more to the right with Donald Trump, are they really going to take Andrew Cuomo and his fake, reinvented moderate shtick seriously? I urge you not to do so. We can do better than Andrew Cuomo.
