JONESBORO, AR — Local woman Geena Parks reportedly couldn't contain her excitement for October to begin, which she said is the start of "taking pictures of your Bible next to a cup of coffee" season.
Though pictures of a Bible and coffee are posted by women throughout the year, October is officially the start of Bible and coffee season, during which women attempt to one-up each other by sharing the most pictures of themselves reading their Bibles while enjoying a mug of coffee, proving they are the most holy.
"It's my favorite time of year," Parks wrote earlier this week in an Instagram post of a cup of coffee next to her Bible. "Here's a sneak peek at what October is going to be like, fam. Don't forget to follow for more Bible/Coffee pictures!"
Parks had previously been criticized for her Bible and coffee posts, with some even suggesting believers shouldn't be using the Bible as a prop to show off. But Parks disagrees.
"Jesus said to go into your closet and pray alone rather than be seen by men, but he didn't say anything about posting pictures of your Bible with your coffee," she said. "I think Jesus would absolutely follow my Instagram account."
The Bible and coffee tradition goes back to 2010 with the release of Instagram. However, according to scholars, it's very likely that, if social media had been around during the time of King Solomon, that Proverbs 31 would have included a reference to the virtuous woman posting a picture of her scroll next to her coffee.
At publishing time, Parks has finally settled on the perfect Bible-and-coffee photo to use from among the 274 she took.
