CV NEWS FEED // Police are investigating an alleged arson attack damaging the interior of Our Mother of Good Counsel Church in Los Feliz, California, on Ash Wednesday.
A spokesperson from the parish told CatholicVote in a phone call that the alleged incident occurred around 8 p.m.
CBS News reported that by the time police arrived the suspect had already fled.
Our Mother of Good Counsel’s Instagram page shows damage to books, pews, a pillar, and a stained-glass window. The caption reads, “It’s sad to inform you on Ash Wed night someone vandalized and burnt in OMGC church. Keep us in your prayers.”
According to CBS News, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles released a statement on the incident expressing solidarity with the affected community.
“Any act of vandalism on a house of worship is concerning and disheartening,” the archdiocese stated. “Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Community has been faithfully serving parishioners in the Los Angeles area for 100 years. Our prayers are with the Mother of Good Counsel parish community.”
