Communist streamer Hasan Piker, who argued that the United States “deserved” the 9/11 terrorist attacks, said Wednesday that he plans to hold Texas Democrat James Talarico accountable and pressure him to move further Left if he wins in November.
Piker previewed what’s coming for the Senate hopeful while speaking to leftist students at the University of Texas at Austin.
“Hopefully, inshallah, after James Talarico wins … I feel like I shouldn’t even say that. I feel like in the state of Texas, no Sharia state. They’re gonna throw me in prison,” Piker joked during a discussion about the future of Left-wing politics.
“But yeah, hopefully after James Talarico wins, we got to hold him to account. We got to make sure that he doesn’t become another do-nothing Democrat, business as usual, and we got to keep up that pressure,” Piker said.
The controversial Twitch streamer, who has a large online following, urged young people to turn out to help flip Texas blue for the first time in decades, suggesting their votes could give them significant influence over Talarico.
“And we have to remind him that we are the force that backed him both early on, and we are the force that allowed him to win this seat of power, and if he wants to maintain it, he’s got to play ball,” Piker said.
The comments could throw a wrench into Talarico’s effort to scrub his liberal record from the minds of moderate voters unhappy with the Trump administration.
“James Talarico is bought and paid for by the Democratic Socialists. And if he wins, they’ll cash in at YOUR expense: raising your taxes and making life more expensive to pay for their radical agenda,” Attorney General Ken Paxton (R-TX) said. “Texas can’t afford Talarico.”
Republicans have used Piker’s inflammatory views and past statements as an albatross around the necks of vulnerable Democrats. Most notably, Michigan Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers is blitzing the airwaves to highlight Democrat Abdul El-Sayed’s ties to the streamer, who repeatedly hit the campaign trail for El-Sayed during the primary. One recent survey showed Piker’s approval rating sitting at a grim 6% in the industrial battleground.
There is little evidence to suggest Talarico, who has said he believes there are six genders and believes God is “non-binary,” will moderate his posture in Washington.
On Tuesday, The Daily Wire exclusively obtained an undercover video showing the Democrat saying his radical views on transgender issues “haven’t changed,” days after he told Fox News that he would oppose transgender athletes competing in girls’ sports if their participation threatened safety and fairness.
In the September 13 recording, Talarico was meeting voters at Houston’s Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church when a woman asked the Democrat whether she could count on him to defend her “niece who is trans” and her ability to compete in women’s sports.
“Always,” Talarico responded. “The way I fought for trans kids in the legislature is how I will fight for them in the U.S. Senate. And my position hasn’t changed.”
Talarico also said he believes transgender sports policies should be decided locally and on a case-by-case basis.
“I still think these should be local decisions, sport by sport, athlete by athlete, and I think I have the most inclusive policy of any candidate who’s running. So I know things are getting clipped and stuff, but my views, my position hasn’t changed,” Talarico said. “And I’m gonna have your loved ones back.”
Madison Cercy, a Paxton campaign spokeswoman, said Talarico “can’t outrun his own radical record,” in response to The Daily Wire’s report.
“He voted against protecting kids and voted against protecting girls’ sports. Now, even he admits his position ‘hasn’t changed.’ This video has finally exposed James Talarico for who he truly is: a hypocrite, rampant flip-flopper, and a liar,” Cercy said.
