CV NEWS FEED // Boise State University’s women’s volleyball team has forfeited a second time against San Jose State University’s volleyball team due to the team’s biological male player.
Outkick reports that Boise was the first college team in the Mountain West Conference to forfeit against San Jose when they canceled their September 28 match.
A San Jose spokesperson told Outkick that on November 1 Boise informed them that its volleyball team would not play its scheduled home match on Thursday, November 21.
“Per Mountain West Conference policy, the Conference will record the match as a forfeit for Boise State,” the statement read.
The University of Wyoming, Utah State University, and the University of Nevada have all forfeited games against San Jose, as CatholicVote previously reported.
Boise State and Wyoming were the only forfeiting teams that were scheduled to play San Jose twice, according to Outkick. As of November 5, Wyoming has not canceled its second match against San Jose, scheduled for November 14.
Boise State is currently in sixth place in the Mountain West Conference, and only six teams will qualify for the Mountain West tournament beginning on November 27.
“Accepting a crucial loss, the second forfeit loss of the season for Boise State, shows how committed the Broncos’ team is to standing on the principle of not contesting a match against a biological male,” the Outkick article concluded, “even if it cuts its season short and ends its dreams of reaching the NCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament.”
