MIDDLE EAST — A ceasefire has taken hold in the Middle East after President Trump and Iran both forgot whose turn it was to bomb the other.
Trump reportedly felt sure it was Iran's turn, but began questioning himself after 24 hours passed without any bombs going off. However, the IRGC likewise thought it was Trump's turn, but felt too embarrassed to call and check.
"Welp, guess it's a ceasefire," announced Qatari negotiators after speaking to both sides. "No one can remember whose turn it is to bomb the other and both sides are too embarrassed to ask at this point. It's an unconventional path to peace, but it's peace nonetheless."
Attempts to reconstruct the sequence of attacks proved unsuccessful after both sides insisted that all of their bombings were responses to the other side's bombings. Further confusion arose over whether a missile that got intercepted still counted as a turn, and whether Israel had been taking its own turns or just going whenever it felt like it.
Diplomats expressed cautious optimism that the ceasefire could become permanent if enough time passed that asking whose turn it was would become even more awkward.
At publishing time, Trump and Iranian envoys had agreed to play rock, paper, scissors to decide whose turn it was to shoot missiles.
