We look ahead to Sunday afternoon’s WSL meeting at Stamford Bridge with our Chelsea vs Tottenham prediction and preview.

Chelsea vs Tottenham: The Key Stats

  • The Opta supercomputer makes Chelsea strong favourites to secure all three points against Tottenham, with the Blues winning 78.4% of its 10,000 pre-match simulations.
  • Chelsea have won all 13 of their WSL meetings with Tottenham, making them the only team to face an opponent more than 10 times in the competition and still boast a 100%-win rate.
  • Tottenham are winless in their last 20 WSL games against ‘big-four’ opposition (D4 L16), since a 1-0 win over Arsenal in December 2023. In comparison, Spurs have won 14 of their last 20 league matches against non-‘big-four’ opponents (D2 L4).

After an impressive start to the 2026-27 Women’s Super League season, Spurs were brought back down to earth before the international break, suffering a 6-1 defeat to London City Lionesses.

Having won their previous two matches 7-0 and 4-0, Tottenham became the first team in WSL history to win by four or more goals and then lose their next game by at least the same margin in the same season.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have hit their stride under Sonia Bompastor after their disappointing draw against Aston Villa on Matchday 1. They are unbeaten in 13 WSL games, comfortably the best ongoing run of any side.

The Blues have won four consecutive WSL matches, and could make it five in a row for the first time since the start of last season. They are yet to trail in a league game this season, achieving that feat for the fifth time overall and for a third consecutive campaign. All other WSL teams have managed it on just four occasions combined.

Defensively, Chelsea have been outstanding. They have conceded just once in their opening five league games, with that goal coming via a Veerle Buurman own goal, matching their best-ever defensive start to a WSL season in 2015. They have also kept six consecutive clean sheets in all competitions, their longest such run since December 2021.

Sunday’s clash also marks Bompastor’s 50th WSL game in charge. She has collected 122 points from her first 49 matches (W38 D8 L3), averaging 2.49 points per game. A win here would take her to 125 points, surpassing Joe Montemurro’s record (123) for the most points by a manager in their first 50 WSL matches.

Spurs, though, have made notable progress under Martin Ho.

They have taken 10 points from their opening five games, with Ho averaging 2.0 points per match, up from 1.5 last season. Consistency has been key, with Tottenham making just two changes to their starting XI across their first five league matches, the fewest by any WSL side since Aston Villa made one at the same stage in 2022-23.

Victoria Pelova has been central to that improvement. The former Arsenal midfielder has scored five goals in her first three WSL starts for Spurs and could become just the third player in club history to score in four consecutive league starts following Martha Thomas in October 2023 and Bethany England in May 2024.

Despite their heavy defeat last time out, Tottenham remain one of the league’s most dangerous attacking sides.

They lead the WSL for total shots (125), while only Chelsea (38) have recorded more shots on target than Spurs (37). Signe Gaupset has been at the heart of such output, creating a league-high 18 chances, all from open play, while her three assists are joint-most in the division.

The Blues have attacking threats throughout their side, with Keira Walsh enjoying arguably the most advanced role of her career.

The England international is averaging three shots, two chances created and three touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes this season, all career-high figures across Europe’s big five leagues.

The transformation is particularly striking when compared with last season. Walsh averaged just 0.3 chances created per 90 minutes in 2025-26, while her involvement in the attacking third has increased considerably, from 17 touches per 90 to 30.

Indeed, 35% of her touches are now coming in the final third, compared with 25% last season.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Head-to-Head

Sunday’s meeting pits the WSL’s most prolific shooting side against its strongest defence.

Chelsea have conceded just once all season and lead the division for high turnovers (82), while Tottenham rank second behind the Blues for pressing intensity, allowing just 8.3 PPDA compared to Chelsea’s league-best 7.9.

History, however, heavily favours the hosts. Chelsea have won all 13 previous WSL meetings with Tottenham, the only team in competition history to maintain a 100% record against an opponent after more than 10 meetings.

Spurs’ struggles against the WSL’s traditional ‘big four’ also underlines the scale of the challenge facing Ho’s side.

Tottenham are winless in their last 20 league matches against ‘big-four’ opposition (D4 L16), a run stretching back to their 1-0 victory over Arsenal in December 2023..

Chelsea vs Tottenham Prediction

Despite Tottenham’s strong start to the season under Ho, the Opta supercomputer gives them little chance of overcoming Chelsea.

The Blues are overwhelming favourites, according to the supercomputer winning 78.4% of the 10,000 pre-match simulations, compared with just 8.6% for Tottenham. The draw occurred in 13.1% of simulations.
