A Democratic candidate for North Carolina’s state Legislature says she will not drop out of her contest despite crazy social media posts that caused her party to withdraw support.
A candidate for House District 62, Shelly Headen wrote that supporters of President Donald Trump should be jailed in concentration camps. And terrorists, she wrote, should attack “stupid” people in two Southern states.
She has also been forced to explain police reports about two domestic incidents with her husband.
Despite the state party’s withdrawing support, Headen stood firm. She won’t quit the race against incumbent Republican John Blust. She compared her troubles to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Trump Supporters Deserve Death
Headen’s latest posts are nothing new. On August 23, 2024, underneath the bizarre claims that “many pundits are already dubbing Kamala Harris’ speech tonight the greatest acceptance speech in American history,” Headen wrote the following:
I’m so excited! Ready for the MAGAs to die off!! 💙💙💙
“Headen denied having an X account, despite the House Democratic Caucus linking to it earlier this year,” The Assembly politics website reported:
On LinkedIn, she said, “the damage [Trump] has done is getting close to surpassing Hilter [sic]. In addition, I think his MAGA cult may be more destructive and evil than the Nazis.”
On an anti-Trump Facebook group, she responded to an open-ended Facebook post that asked, “Why is it that some of us can see what is going on in the world and others can’t?” She replied, “Maybe they need to experience sexual assault so they can experience what Trump’s victims feel.”
Headen also responded to a post in the same group that praised the man who pleaded guilty to the 2024 killing of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Headen suggested violence is more useful than peaceful protests. “I think America is beyond peaceful protest!” she commented.
In other words, Headen seems obsessed with violence against political opponents.
Tarheel Republicans shared a post a few days ago in which Headen called for a terror attack against Alabamians and Louisianans.
“I think our only hope is an attack on US soil… preferably Alabama, Louisiana… where the stupid people live,” she wrote on Facebook.
Fire Up the Ovens
But those deranged comments aren’t the worst. Standing in front of the ovens at Dachau, Headen thought posting this comment was a bright idea:
Visiting Dauchau Concentration Camp in Germany… This is where Trump supporters belong.
In other words, Trump supporters must be done to death in ovens.
Headen’s hateful, violent rhetoric is so out of control that the Guilford County Democratic Party has to jettison the candidate.
The party “stands firmly for decency, mutual respect, and the core values of our community,” and “we unequivocally reject and condemn the social media posts made by Shelly Headen,” it said:
Language that references concentration camps, uses derogatory terms toward neurodivergent individuals, or invokes political violence is completely indefensible and unacceptable. These statements violate everything our party represents.
Though ballots are now finalized and candidates cannot be removed, the party “is formally withdrawing all financial, operational, and organizational support from Shelly Headen’s campaign for NC House District 62. We will not expend party resources or volunteer efforts on behalf of her candidacy.”
Delusional?
“Within hours of an Assembly inquiry to state party leaders, a spokesman for the House Democratic caucus said the group will no longer support Shelly Headen,” the website reported.
Headen’s response to the party’s dumping her suggests she might be off her rocker.
Headen recalled writing the posts but not specifics. “I can’t remember what I’ve posted,” she told the website. “I’ve been very vocal against MAGA.”
Headen blew $30,000 for a consultant to check her social media and has no intention of quitting the race, party opposition regardless, she told The Assembly:
I’ve sacrificed myself just like Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross, and Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln and all the people that put themselves out there to sacrifice for our country. If a few angry moments on social media are the end, then so be it. MAGA will keep winning if we continue with not standing up for what’s right.
Aside from that, Headen also dealt with the domestic abuse case.
Two police reports, dated May 30 and November 19, 2024, show Headen as the suspect in domestic violence crimes.
“Shelly Kates Headen is listed as the lone suspect,” while her husband, Gregory, “is named as the victim,” The Carolina Journal reported two weeks ago:
Both identify the alleged offense as simple physical assault and list the use of only personal weapons.
The May report lists no injury to the victim, while the November report lists an “apparent minor injury.” Both incidents are classified as domestic.
House Republicans state Headen’s husband made both calls to law enforcement.
The documents released by House Republicans consist of incident-report face sheets and suspect lists, but do not include deputies’ narrative accounts describing what allegedly occurred. The records provided also do not establish whether either incident resulted in an arrest or criminal charges.
On September 3, Headen claimed “that during a high-stress time in my marriage, my husband and I had a couple of arguments that escalated. During one argument, my husband grabbed me, and I fell backward and hit my head. In my fear and confusion, I sought support and protection from those I trusted — I called 911.”
