Female Athletes Sound Off Against Sydney Sweeney’s Racy Sports Campaign

Female athletes blasted Sydney Sweeney’s provocative nude Novig campaign, accusing the actress of fueling the oversexualization of women in sports.

Sweeney stripped down for the racy ad, promoting the sports trading app, strategically using sports equipment to conceal her naked body. Several female athletes took to social media to condemn the campaign, slamming the actress over her portrayal.

Australian surfer Felicity Palmateer told CNN that Sweeney’s Novig campaign was “very damaging” for female athletes in an interview Monday.

British athlete Lucy Davis wrote, “I don’t know wtf Sydney Sweeney was doing, but it’s 2026. Stop sexualizing women in sport.”

Davis continued, “We didn’t come this far to only come this far.”

The popular athlete shared video footage of her athleticism alongside a caption that read, “Maybe instead of teaching girls how their bodies should look, we show them what their bodies can do.”

Australian swimmer Lani Pallister shared a video alongside the caption, “Don’t know what Sydney Sweeney thinks sport looks like, but THIS is what sport looks like.”

Her post was liked over a million times, including by American diver Kassidy Cook.

Australian World champion boxer Skye Nicolson lent her voice to the conversation by accusing Sweeney of making a “mockery” of women in sports.

“There’s a big difference between looking ‘sexy’ because you do sport compared to using sex to sell ‘sport’,” she wrote in an Instagram story, according to Deadline.

Former Australian swimming champion and four-time Olympic gold medal winner Ariarne Titmus wrote “I can’t describe how infuriated I feel when I watch this,” on her Instagram story, according to Deadline.

“Not only is it a kick in the face to every woman who has dedicated her life to perfecting her craft, but every woman who enjoys sports for what it really is – teamwork, friendship, dedication, excellence, unity,” she said.
