PETALING JAYA – Three areas in Malaysia have recorded very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings while 10 other areas are showing unhealthy levels.
According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), the three very unhealthy API readings are in Sarawak, where Kuching has a reading of 298, followed by Samarahan (297) and Sri Aman (248) as at 8.30am on Sept 4.
Six areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy API readings, namely Sarikei (180), Sibu (175), Mukah (170), Bintulu (159), Samalaju (152) and ILP Miri (137), while in Sabah, Sandakan has a reading of 152 and Politeknik Kota Kinabalu’s API reading is 118.
Johor also recorded unhealthy API readings in Pasir Gudang at 110 and Segamat at 107.
Elsewhere in the country, 45 locations such as those in Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Selangor and Terengganu are seeing moderate API level readings while 10 locations in Penang, Kedah and Kelantan are showing good API levels.
API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
