France superstar Kylian Mbappé is shining at the 2026 World Cup, and he should reach another landmark when Les Bleus face Iraq on Monday.
Kylian Mbappé is just one game away from another achievement in his already glittering career, likely to earn his 100th cap for France when they take on Iraq in the second game of their 2026 World Cup campaign on Monday night.
The Real Madrid man starred in France’s 3-1 victory over Senegal on Matchday 1, scoring twice, and should he make it to a century of appearances for the senior side against Iraq, he will hope to add to his impressive goal tally.
He became France’s all-time top goalscorer with those two goals, taking him above previous record holder Olivier Giroud.

Mbappé also overtook Just Fontaine (13 goals) as France’s highest scorer at the World Cup. He’s now on 14, and just two off the overall record held jointly by Germany’s Miroslav Klose and Argentina’s Lionel Messi (16).
Mbappé made his first appearance for France on 25 March 2017 in a World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg, and just over nine years later, is set to become a centurion for his country.
In total, Mbappé has played 15 games at the World Cup (14 goals, 2 assists), 16 in World Cup qualifiers (11G, 5A), nine at the UEFA European Championship (1G, 2A), 13 in Euros qualifiers (12G, 8A), 21 UEFA Nations League games (9G, 5A), and 25 friendlies (11G, 12A).
Mbappé will also become the fourth-youngest European player to make it to 100 appearances for his country should he feature tonight, or indeed, at any time at this World Cup.
At the age of just 27 years and 184 days as of Monday, he’ll only reach that milestone at an older age than Sergio Ramos (Spain – 26y, 357d), Lukas Podolski (Germany – 27y, 13d) and Kristen Viikmäe (Estonia – 27y, 109d).
Of course, he therefore has many years ahead of him to rack up even more appearances. He could even threaten Hugo Lloris’ record of 145 games for France.
Indeed, by the end of this World Cup, Mbappé may have overtaken his head coach Didier Deschamps, who earned 103 caps for Les Bleus as a player.
