When James Carville says he wants card-carrying socialists to have no part in the Democrat Party, America should pay attention.
This is the man who put Bill Clinton in the White House. He wrote the playbook Democrats ran for thirty years. “It’s the economy, stupid.”
And this summer, watching democrat socialists sweep primaries in his own party, Carville said the far left is “part of the problem” and has openly mused about walking away. He has called his own party a “cracked-out clown car” and urged democratic socialists to form their own party rather than hijack his.
When the architect of the modern Democrat Party starts pulling the fire alarm at 5:00am, believe him. Here is the truth no one on the left will say out loud: the Democrat Party of ten years ago would be branded a MAGA hate group by the Democrat Party of today. No doubt, the SPLC would label the Democrats of a decade ago nazis, fascists, and unbridled white nationalists.
Don’t take my word for it. Take theirs.
In 2006, then Senator Hillary Clinton voted for the Secure Fence Act. So did Senators Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Chuck Schumer. Seven hundred miles of physical barrier on the southern border. In 2014, Secretary Clinton said unaccompanied children who crossed the border illegally should be sent back to send a clear message. In 1995, Bill Clinton stood before Congress and said Americans are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country.
The chamber rose in a standing ovation.
Say any of that at a Democratic debate in 2026, and you will be shouted off the stage as a fascist. Understand what that means. Hillary Clinton held positions a decade ago that today’s left considers disqualifying extremism, racism, and bigotry. The country didn’t lurch right. Republicans are standing roughly where we’ve always stood: secure the border, back the police, protect women’s sports and spaces, spend less than we take in. Well, I take that spending line back; Republicans are just as bad as Democrats when it comes to government growth and spending.
But we are watching in real time as the other side sprints off a cliff.
Psychosis, clinically speaking, is a break from reality. I don’t use the word casually. But what else do you call a political movement that cannot define what a woman is? That looks at open-air drug markets and calls enforcement the crime? That watches families flee its cities and concludes the problem is that taxes aren’t high enough? The kind that primaries lifelong Democrats for the sin of agreeing with 2014 Hillary Clinton?
This isn’t a policy dispute anymore.
It’s a movement that has severed the tether between its ideology and the world the rest of us live in. And it’s winning inside the Democrat Party. This summer, candidates backed by New York’s socialist mayor won House primaries in solidly blue districts. Carville looked at the results and said the quiet part: these people aren’t Democrats. They’re something else wearing the Democrat Party like a costume.
The casualties are ordinary Americans. The electrician in North Charleston. The Black church lady who’s voted blue her whole life and locks her car doors like everybody else. The suburban mom who just wants her daughter’s track meet to be fair. Nobody asked them if they wanted to defund the police, decriminalize the border, or debate pronouns in the classroom. Their party left them.
I disagree with James Carville on damn near everything. That’s exactly why his warning matters.
When your fiercest opponents start describing your talking points as the only sane position left in their party, you’re not the extremist. You’re the landmark everyone else is measuring their drift against.
So here’s my invitation to every Democrat who feels politically homeless: you don’t have to agree with republicans on everything. Neither did Reagan Democrats. You just have to prefer reality. Laws we follow. Secure borders. Safe streets. Girls’ sports for girls. And a dollar that buys what it did last year. That’s not radicalism. That was your party’s platform within the last decade.
The left can hold its struggle sessions and eat its own. Down here in South Carolina, we’ll keep our feet planted where they’ve always been: on solid ground.
Come on over. The water’s warm. And nobody here will make you apologize for having common sense, or God forbid, for being normal.
