The Mainland Block Party returns to Lagos on Friday 1 January 2027, with earlybird tickets already on sale. For US visitors in Nigeria for the December concert season, it is the party that opens the new year.

The official site calls this edition Mission 27k and lists it from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m., Lagos time. Entry starts at ₦7,500 (about US$6), but the venue and the headliner have not been announced.

What the Mainland Block Party Is and Why It Matters

The Mainland Block Party began in 2018 as a local gathering in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State. Its founders, Asa Asika and Bizzle Osikoya, also founded the music agency Plug NG, OkayAfrica reported in July 2025.

The idea was to celebrate the Lagos mainland, which OkayAfrica described as rich in culture but often dismissed. The mainland is the inland part of Lagos, across the lagoon from the business districts of Victoria Island and Ikoyi.

Recent New Year’s Day editions have carried a “Mission” name and a major Nigerian headliner. Singer Adekunle Gold led Mission 24k and the street-pop singer Seyi Vibez led Mission 25k, the Nigerian daily ThisDay reported.

The last edition, Mission 26k, was set for Thursday 1 January 2026, with the rapper Olamide announced as headliner. ThisDay reported that it aimed to draw 26,000 people, its most ambitious target yet.

The brand has also travelled, with recent editions in Abuja, Accra, London and New York, according to ThisDay. In New York, the rapper ODUMODUBLVCK headlined a 2025 show staged with OkayAfrica, the African culture website.

For US readers, the Mainland Block Party is a Lagos brand that has already staged shows for Nigerian fans in New York. It comes at the end of Detty December, the Lagos concert season that includes Detty December Fest.

Ticket Tiers and Prices in US Dollars

The official Mainland Block Party website sells five tiers, from ₦7,500 (about US$6) to ₦3 million (about US$2,250). US$ figures here use about ₦1,331 to the US dollar, the rate on Saturday 10 October 2026.

The cheapest tier, Rockstar Earlybird, costs ₦7,500 (about US$6) and gives general entry. Legend Earlybird costs ₦50,000 (about US$38), with a platform view, private entry, free merchandise and a cocktail shot.

Group sections start with District 6 at ₦1 million (about US$750), a standing area for six with two premium bottles. District 9 costs ₦2 million (about US$1,500) and seats eight with four premium bottles.

District 12 costs ₦3 million (about US$2,250) and seats ten, with a ₦1.5 million (about US$1,130) drinks allowance and a food platter. Each of the three District sections also includes a shisha pot and one free merchandise item.

The two cheapest tiers carry an earlybird label, and the site does not say when or by how much prices will change. Buy only through the official site, since tickets from resellers cannot be checked in advance.

The Venue, Ikeja and How to Get There

The Mainland Block Party ticket page lists the venue as TBA, meaning to be announced, on the Lagos mainland. Its event description places the party in Ikeja, the district where the first edition was held in 2018.

NotJustOk, a Nigerian music site, reported in December 2025 that the party has traditionally been held at the Police College in Ikeja. ThisDay called the site of the last edition Mainland Wonderland, and the organisers have not said where Mission 27k will be held.

Murtala Muhammed International Airport, the main gateway for international flights into Lagos, sits in Ikeja. For December, the airport authority asks travellers to arrive three to four hours before departure.

The US State Department says ride-hailing apps are widely used in Lagos and are seen as safer than ordinary taxis. Agree on a pick-up point in advance, because finding a car can take time when a large crowd leaves at once.

Staying on the mainland near Ikeja shortens the trip back when the party ends at 5 a.m. on Saturday. Visitors based on the islands should plan the return journey before the night begins.

Tips for US and Foreign Visitors

Americans need a Nigerian visa before they travel, according to the US State Department. Passports must be valid for six months beyond the arrival date, with one blank page per entry stamp.

Nigeria also requires yellow fever and polio vaccination certificates from all travellers older than nine months. Any amount above US$10,000 must be declared on arrival and on departure.

The State Department rates Nigeria at Level 3 of 4, “Reconsider travel”, in an advisory issued on Friday 12 June 2026. Lagos State is not on its list of states where Americans should not travel at all.

The advisory warns that violent crime is common and that Americans, seen as wealthy, are often targets of crime and kidnapping. It adds that US help in emergencies is limited outside Abuja and Lagos.

At a large night-time party, keep phones and cash out of sight and stay with people you know. Decide in advance where to regroup if anyone gets separated in the crowd.

Budget for a ride-hailing trip each way to the Mainland Block Party, which ends at 5 a.m. on Saturday 2 January. Carry some cash in naira as well as cards, and tell your bank before you travel.

What Is Not Confirmed Yet

The organisers have not named a headliner for Mission 27k or published a line-up. They have also not confirmed the exact venue beyond Ikeja on the Lagos mainland.

The ticket page gives no doors time, no age limit and no end date for the earlybird prices. It links to a refund and cancellation policy but does not summarise the terms.

Each recent Mainland Block Party had a major Nigerian headliner, but no name has been given for this edition. Fans planning a trip around one artist should wait for that announcement before booking flights.

Tickets are on sale even though the venue is still listed as TBA. Visitors should keep hotel bookings flexible until the address is published.
