A man has died in Hong Kong after falling into the sea near Lamma Island from a ship, with authorities investigating the cause of the incident.
Police received an alert shortly before 11.30am on Friday morning, as a man aboard a cargo ship reported seeing another fall into the sea while climbing a ladder.
“The man was rescued onto the ship and sent to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital [in Chai Wan] by helicopter. He was later certified dead,” a force spokesman told the Post, adding the time of death was 2.04pm.
According to police, the deceased was believed to be a South Asian man holding a Hong Kong identity card.
The deceased’s occupation, age and reason for falling into the sea, as well as his relationship between the man who reported the case, were still under investigation.
