An explosion of pyrotechnic material during a festival killed at least 10 people and injured 64, according to Mexican officials.
The explosion happened Saturday night close to a church in central Mexico.
Nuestra Señora de la Luz church is located in Temascalcingo, a municipality that is home to about 66,000 residents. It’s located about 100 miles northwest of Mexico City.
The large group was preparing to watch fireworks that were set to be a part of a religious festival.
The reason for the deadly explosion has yet to be determined. The Mexico State Attorney General is investigating the area.
Two priests were among those injured, according to a local bishop, KSBW reported.
A social media video shows people erratically running through the smoke looking for survivors and blasting fire hoses to put out a fire.
About four years ago, another explosion in the state of Hidalgo also left 17 people injured, according to KSBW.
