It looks like the Daniel Jones era in NYC is over!

The New York Giants have made the move to bench their starting quarterback Daniel Jones, with NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport originally reporting the news Monday morning. The official website of the National Football League went on to confirm the news. (RELATED: Bears Have An Absolutely Abysmal Losing Streak Against Packers, And It Just Got A Lot Worse)

As far as who their next quarterback will be, the G-Men have two backup options in Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock. The expectations are that DeVito will be named the starter rather than Lock, and of course, Jones as the Giants face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their next game this Sunday, per NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

The 2019 NFL Draft’s No. 6 overall pick, Jones has been New York’s franchise quarterback since he took over the reins from the legendary Eli Manning.

I’m surprised at the Tommy DeVito pick, but at the same time, I’m not.

I’m not surprised because the DeVito hype has been there before with the Giants, but you would think they would invest some time into Drew Lock considering they inked him to a one-year, $5 million contract back in the offseason. And the main purpose for that was to be Jones’ backup. On top of that, every single penny of that $5 million is guaranteed.

But at the same time though, DeVito’s numbers haven’t been bad this year — 1,101 passing yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions.

Good problem for the Giants to have overall.
