Over-40s Cricket World Cup Guyana: Dates, Format and Final
Play starts at 9:30 a.m. Guyana time (UTC−4) on Saturday 17 October, according to the official tournament site. The 72 matches fill 15 match days, at 45 overs a side.
The 16 teams play in two groups of eight, which CWIMA calls zones. Zone A holds South Africa, Canada, Namibia, the West Indies, Wales, Australia, Colombia and Sri Lanka.
Zone B holds New Zealand, Scotland, the United States, India, Pakistan and England. A Rest of the World side and a Rest of the Caribbean side complete it.
Knockout rounds follow, and the final is Match 72 at Providence on 31 October. CWIMA lists an opening ceremony on Friday 16 October at Railway Courtyard in Georgetown.
Who Is Playing: Former Test Players Aged 40 and Over
Masters cricket is for former professionals and club players above a set age, here 40. The home side is captained by Denesh Ramdin, a former West Indies captain.
The West Indies squad also names Ramnaresh Sarwan, Devendra Bishoo and the Guyanese brothers Sewnarine and Hemnarine Chattergoon. The Guyana Chronicle counts six former Test players among them.
England are led by Darren Stevens, the former Kent all-rounder. The IMC says the previous Over-40s World Cup was played in Cape Town, South Africa, in February and March 2024.
Nine Grounds, From Bourda to the Essequibo Coast
CWIMA’s venue directory lists nine grounds. Three are in Georgetown, the capital: Bourda, the Demerara Cricket Club and Malteenoes Sports Club.
The flagship is the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, south of the capital, with 15,000 seats. Enmore and Lusignan lie on the East Coast of Demerara, and Albion in Berbice, the eastern region.
Two grounds serve the Essequibo Coast in the west. They are the new Anna Regina National Stadium and the Joe Jagmohan ground at Hampton Court.
Bourda, home of the Georgetown Cricket Club, is a former Test ground. The Guyana Chronicle notes it staged 30 Tests and 13 one-day internationals between 1930 and 2006, and none since.
Tickets: Free Entry, With Paid Booths at Providence
Admission to all matches is free, CWIMA said in a release published by News Room Guyana on 21 September. Kaieteur News has since reported that 10 to 12 air-conditioned booths at Providence are sold as season tickets, with no price published.
Entry to the ceremonies is still marked “Final Access Details TBC” (to be confirmed).
Visitors pay for food and transport in Guyanese dollars (G$). On 29 September the Bank of Guyana bought US dollars at about G$208 to the dollar, so G$1,000 is worth about US$4.80.
Getting Around: Practical Tips for Visitors
Most matches are in or near Georgetown. Providence lies on the East Bank road between the capital and Cheddi Jagan International Airport, the main international gateway.
The Essequibo grounds need more planning, because that coast lies across the wide Essequibo River. Kaieteur News says a sponsor is flying about 120 team personnel there on domestic flights.
Matches start at 9:30 a.m., so much of the play falls in the hottest hours of the day. The tournament site lists 911 for police and 912 for fire and ambulance.
Why Guyana, and What the Tournament Brings
Guyana is South America’s only English-speaking country and plays its cricket as part of the West Indies. Providence staged matches at the men’s World Cups of 2007 and 2024.
Sixteen squads fill hotels and restaurants for two weeks, a modest boost for hospitality in an economy now shaped by oil.
The government convened police, health and defence agencies to plan security and medical cover. “We are on top of things so far,” tournament director Raj Singh told Kaieteur News.

The official match-by-match schedule is not yet published. CWIMA’s fixtures page reads “Official release pending”, although local newspapers have printed individual fixtures.
Reports differ on some details. The Guyana Chronicle gave different Essequibo ground assignments on 27 and 29 September. CWIMA’s own site names nine venues in its directory but eleven on its home page.
The home-page banner also says 17 October to 1 November. The events page and the IMC put the final on 31 October. Live-stream links have not yet been posted, and the picture should firm up as 17 October approaches.
