Raiders’ Fernando Mendoza Continues Likable Ways With Brilliant State Farm Commercial

The Miami kid does it again!

Las Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza has yet to take a single snap in an NFL regular season game, but the former Indiana Hoosier is already a star, especially when you look at what he’s doing off the field while awaiting his professional debut.

State Farm debuted a new commercial Thursday that features Mendoza with Jake From State Farm, putting the No. 1 overall selection in the spotlight prior to Week 2. (RELATED: Raiders’ Kirk Cousins Becomes Just 15th Quarterback Ever To Join 300 Touchdown Club)

Named “Vegas Can Change A Man,” the advertisement shows Mendoza and Jake in Sin City and clowning around about how the former has changed since living there.

Mendoza is doing his thing at a casino table in a game of “Go fish!,” he brushes his teeth and then eats a cookie, and says that he didn’t call his mom before feeling bad and doing so.

When a rookie can poke fun at himself on national television before playing a down, it shows a level of poise and maturity that coaches spend years trying to teach, which makes me want to see Mendoza play even more. I want to see how that energy transitions to an NFL field.

But we’ll have to wait and see, because I tell you what, the Raiders have put Mendoza in such a sweet position.

Sitting behind a seasoned pro like Kirk Cousins gives Mendoza the ultimate luxury time. He doesn’t have to carry the weight of the franchise on his shoulders starting in Week 1. He gets to learn the ropes, soak up veteran knowledge, and build his brand while keeping the vibe completely drama-free.

I actually have to applaud the Raiders for how they’ve handled this kid … grade-A work.
