MECHANICSBURG, PA — Comedian Shane Gillis is facing backlash from a joke he said during the opening monologue of the October 10 episode of SNL, which Southern Baptist preachers allege he ripped straight out of their 1995 sermons.
Southern Baptists have been noting immodest outfits worn by women in gyms for decades. Gillis's attempt at observational humor, according to the pastors, was stolen directly out of their sermon notes from thirty years ago.
"Boo! Get some of your own material!" said Bill Haster, a retired preacher at First Baptist Church. "That's thirty years old and right out of my sermon 'Cover Up For Jesus.' Plagiarism!"
At publishing time, Gillis had announced a new tour titled 'Modest Is Hottest."
