Mayor Zohran Mamdani speaking at a press conference in Long Island City in New York City.

It looks like City Hall still has some grownups; who else could’ve spilled the beans on the latest idiocy plotted by Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s brainless trust — a troll-farm offensive against top city CEOs?
Our news-side colleagues haven’t shared their sources on the plans for a major social-media campaign blasting biz leaders as the latest enemies of the people; we’re simply deducing the existence of leakers on the mayor’s team who saw this scheme could only blow up in Mamdani’s face.
Exactly as did the mayor’s infamous Tax Day video doxxing and denouncing hedge-funder Ken Griffin, and his farcically broad “pied-à-terre tax” class-warfare target list.
We’re not simply outraged at spending city resources on political agitprop demonizing private citizens as exploiters and parasites.
Yes, those moves jazzed the Mamdanista inner circle, who need to believe they’re scoring for socialism, and cheered the ressentiment regiments of his voting base — but that’s all the good it did.
Nor will mobilizing his paid influencers to gin up a new Eat-the-Rich hate-fest actually help win massive state tax hikes next spring, as the planners pretend.
Even most Democrats in Albany are tiring of the mayor; they might be happy to raise taxes, but only to fund their own agendas, not his.
So the smear campaign can only (further) alienate its targets without actually harming them, since CEOs sleep just fine at night despite Cousin Comrade’s YouTube yucks, Bluesky blasts and Instagram insults.
(Of course the attacks might prompt them to think again about how much easier it is to do business in West Palm . . .)
Yes, social media can carry real power, but it’s no magic wand to grant the wizards’ every wish — and the mayor’s team has actual work to do just to keep city government functioning.
Maybe the staff stuck with that thankless task are just as happy for the mayor to make videos and leave them alone; perhaps it’s the only “work” he’s truly qualified to do.
