Zelda: Soccerina of Time mod turns Hyrule into a football league with clubs like Kokiri FC

A Zelda mod is giving Hyrule the football treatment, with Kokiri FC and Zora United among the teams competing in Soccerina of Time.

Saving Hyrule can wait. Link has a match to win, and some of his homeland’s most familiar locations have become unlikely places to host a kickabout.

Created by modder Shon J, Soccerina of Time transforms The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time into a ROM-hacked football game featuring its characters and NPCs.

As reported by Nintendo Wire, the project is still in development, but already lets players assign characters to different positions on the pitch.

The teams lean into football naming conventions, with Kokiri FC joined by Castle Town, Real Castle, Kakariko City, Zora United, Gerudo Fortress, and Hylia United.

That opens the door to a Castle Town versus Real Castle derby, or a clash between Hyrule’s two Uniteds.

The stadium selection is equally unconventional. Fire Temple, Graveyard, Castle Exterior, and Horseback Archery Range are among the available venues. An away fixture at the Fire Temple sounds particularly unforgiving.

Sadly, not every location has a stadium yet, so don’t expect “a cold, rainy night in the Water Temple.”

The roster of characters includes Link, Skull Kid, Gorons, Ganondorf, Sheik, and many others. There’s also a character creator for anyone who thinks Hyrule’s existing residents are too ordinary.

Players can combine different characters’ body parts and animations, including a Cucco head, Ganondorf’s torso, Ruto’s legs, and Talon’s running animation, then name their creation.

The gameplay isn’t exactly Mario Strikers, but it’s definitely football and it’s still the closest thing we’ve ever gotten to a Zelda-themed football game. Plus, it includes match history, career stats, and standings.

Players can find the mod through its dedicated channel in the Hylian Modding Discord server.

Meanwhile, for an official Zelda game, Nintendo’s Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time is set to launch on November 5.
