(LifeSiteNews) — The 66-year-old Catholic schoolteacher fired in Scotland for sharing her pro-life views has reached an out-of-court financial settlement with her former employer, the Angus Council.
Sarah Morse had been hired for three weeks to fill in for a teacher at Arbroath High School in Angus, Scotland, and given a lesson plan covering the rise of Adolf Hitler. As reported by LifeSiteNews in July, Morse was asked by her teenage students (ages 14 to 15) to share her opinions on a range of issues in November 2025, including ICE, Donald Trump, transgender issues, and abortion.
“As soon as I opened my mouth, the students realized I was American,” she said in an interview with Peter Kearney of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC). “Some girls started to ask me about more social issues,” she said. “I figured it was because these issues are known to be contentious in America, so they were interested because of the context of my presence.”
When she was asked about abortion, Morse told the class that she is pro-life, but that it was “fine to disagree” with her. “I am a faithful Roman Catholic and I am against it,” she explained. When a female student asked her about the case of rape, she carefully laid out several pro-life arguments and stated her believe that it is not right “to punish a child for bad things a parent did.”
In a stunning display of anti-Christian bigotry, she was called into the school office at the end of that same day and fired by the deputy head teacher because “you talked to the kids about your religion and abortion,” despite the fact that she had not advocated for her views. She was not asked to recount how the subjects had been raised, or for details of the conversation.

“I was summarily dismissed … I was not offered any sort of right of reply, asked for my account of what happened or how my legally protected beliefs were raised in the context of a history class, and the head teacher wouldn’t even see me,” Morse recounted to The Sunday Times. “To be ‘canceled’ and lose my livelihood because of my religious identity is a terrifying precedent for the teaching profession in Scotland.”
Morse sued the Angus Council, the government body which runs Arbroath High School. According to OSV News, she demanded “an apology and full reimbursement for loss of three weeks of earnings and $13,500 (10,000 pounds) in compensation for the suffering she said she ‘endured for being cancelled because of my religious beliefs including those relating to abortion.’” SPUC supported her case.
Morse’s case was set to be heard at an employment tribunal scheduled for August 24. Prior to the hearing, the Angus Council privately offered Morse an out-of-court financial settlement. She cannot speak about the details of the settlement, including the amount. Previously, however, Morse told the Times: “I will not teach anywhere in this country ever again. It’s been an absolute nightmare.”
“Expressing a view on abortion in a reasonable manner is not something that should allow people of faith to be victimized,” Michael Robinson of SPUC told OSV News. “SPUC welcomes the fact that the case has been settled, stresses the need for people to stand up for themselves as Sarah did and stands ready to help anyone who might find themselves in a similar situation.”
