Paul Skenes! Luis Gil! Your 2024 Rookies of the Year!
With Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes in particular, it only took him months to go from a No. 1 draft pick to an absolute ace in Major League Baseball, and his flat-out dominance in the 2024 season was praised Monday night with the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year award.
Getting 23 of the 30 first place votes, Skenes blew away from second-place Jackson Merrill, the center fielder for the San Diego Padres. (RELATED: Rays Release Photos Of Tropicana Field Damage Done By Hurricane Milton. The Scenes Are Truly Apocalyptic)
In an incredible campaign, Skenes finished with a stat line of an 11-3 record, 1.96 ERA and 170 strikeouts.
On the flip side, it was New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Gil who reigned victorious as the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year, barely getting the win over Baltimore Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser with 15 first-place votes to 13.
On Gil’s stat sheet, he had 15 wins with a 3.50 ERA, doing this impressively after undergoing Tommy John surgery that saw him miss the 2023 season.
