The Cincinnati Reds veteran pitcher has accepted a qualifying offer from his current ball club that sees him outright landing the bag, according to Cuban baseball insider Francys Romero.
Earlier in the offseason, Martinez had the opportunity to rake in $12 million via a player option, but chose to decline it in an attempt to get more money in his next deal. His plans worked out spectacularly, as Martinez signs a deal that sees him getting around $9 million more at $21.05 million. (RELATED: Guardians Make Spectacular Uniform Changes For 2025 Season. Last season for the Reds, Martinez made a total of 42 appearances with 16 of them being as a starter. On his stat line, he produced a winning 10-7 record with a flashy 3.10 ERA, chalking up 116 strikeouts in 142.1 innings of action.
With how much Cincinnati is paying Martinez, it’s likely that he will begin spring training as a part of their starting rotation, joining Andrew Abbott, Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo. As far as a fifth guy, the team still needs to figure that out, but it’s rumored that they could pursue Kansas City Royals’ Brady Singer in a trade.

The final deadline to accept QO is Tuesday, November 19 (4 PM ET).
Martinez has a 3.31 ERA since returning from Japan in 2022 and was the NL Pitcher of the Month in September.
